Parker paces VHS past Murrah, 9-2

Freshman Brandi Parker booted in four goals and had an assist as Vicksburg High whipped Murrah, 9-2, in Jackson Monday night.

“The field was wet, but it didn’t seem to bother us,” VHS coach Kevin Manton said. “We did some good things.”

Courtney Chapman and Kim Griffing had a pair of goals and an assist apiece and Neely Nasif found the back of the net once. Viola Howard, Brandy Head, Nasif and Michelle Beatty also had assists for the Missy Gators (2-0), who led 5-1 at the half.

The Lady Mustangs’ only goal of the second half came on a penalty kick.

The Missy Gators face Clinton at Northwest Rankin Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

(B) VHS 4, Murrah 1

Sophomore Jeremy Johnson scored a pair of goals as the Gators shut down Murrah and improved to 2-0.

John Griffing and Victor Parker each added a goal as Vicksburg held a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Dave Matthews had a pair of assists, while Parker and Griffing each had an assist. Goalie Bobby McComas had 11 saves.

VHS plays Clinton in the Northwest Rankin Tournament on Wednesday.
