Vicksburg High took its first loss of the season, 3-1 to Clinton in the first round of the Northwest Rankin Tournament Wednesday.
Jeremy Johnson scored on an assist from John Griffing three minutes into the second half to make it 2-1.
But Clinton tacked on another goal at the end of the game to put it out of reach. The Arrows’ second goal came on a penalty kick at the end of the first half.
The Gators (2-1) will face the loser of today’s Meridian-Warren Central game on Saturday at 8 a.m.
“We’re still 3-0 on the respect chart,” VHS coach Josh Harper said. “We proved we can handle the fourth-ranked team in the state.”
The Arrows (3-1) are coached by former Warren Central girls coach Jeff Long.
