MARY ELIZABETH AYERS

Mary Elizabeth Ayers died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Heritage House Nursing Home. She was 80.

Mrs. Ayers was an antiques representative and organist. She was a native of Minnesota, where she received her formal education. She was a graduate of West High School in Minneapolis. She was a former resident of Holly Springs, where she was organist for Christ Episcopal Church. For the past several years, she had lived in Vicksburg, where she was a member and organist at Christ Episcopal Church. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and the Vicksburg Community Concert Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Lydia Matz Ostrander.

She is survived by a son, Curtis P. Ayers III of Thailand; a daughter, Elizabeth Ayers Berry of Midlothian, Va.; a sister, Doris Ostrander Dawdy of San Francisco; four grandchildren and other relatives.

Services were at 2 p.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Bill Livingston officiating under the direction of Mark Seepe Funeral Home in Jackson.

KATIE TURNER BROWN

CARY Katie Turner Brown died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. She was 85.

Mrs. Brown was a former resident of Cary and had lived in Seattle for the past several years.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Viola Clark.

She is survived by three daughters, Doris Brown and Versie Lee Booker, both of Seattle, and Jannie Willingham of Milwaukee, Wis.; four sons, Daniel Johnson and D.W. Johnson, both of Cary, and James Johnson Jr. and Tommie Brown, both of Seattle; 20 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services were at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Guiding Star M.B. Church in Cary with the Rev. Eddie Lane officiating. Burial followed at Cary Community Cemetery under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home in Greenville.

LUCY CALVIN

Services for Lucy Calvin will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Henry Williams officiating. Burial will follow at New Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Service.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Calvin was a domestic worker and a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marion Thomas; her parents, Dillard and Malinda Calvin; three sisters, Sadie Calvin, Hazel Berry and Eddie Lee Calvin; and a brother, Russell Calvin.

She is survived by a son, George Thomas of Vicksburg; a daughter, Ella Jeane McCoy of Vicksburg; four brothers, Luster Calvin, Dave Calvin and Clarence Tolliver, all of San Diego, Calif., and Mose Calvin of Currieville, Texas; two sisters, JoLee Jackson and Virgil Calvin, both of San Diego; and three grandchildren.

ERNEST LEE HALL SR.

Ernest Lee Hall Sr. died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee. He was 59.

Mr. Hall was born in Vicksburg. He worked for J.L. Case in Racine, Wis., and later moved to Milwaukee, Wis., where he retired from Maynard Steel Casting Co.

He was preceded in death by four daughters, Ruby Lucas, Annie Mae Morley, Daisy Thomas and Martha Branch.

He is survived by his wife, Jesser Matie Hall of Milwaukee; five daughters, Althia Hall-Beck of Florida, Linda Hall-Parks, Patricia A. Hall, Janet M. Hall and Jennifer Hall-Rodriguez, all of Milwaukee; a son, Ernest Hall Jr. of Florida; a stepson, Johnnie Evans of Florida; four sisters, Millie Strong, Mary Hall, Natalie Hall and Lureatha Moore, all of Vicksburg; a brother, Percy Hall Jr. of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Baptist Church in Milwaukee. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee under the direction of Golden Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

JOHNNIE HALL

SAGINAW, Mich. Johnnie Hall died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at James E. Cartwright Care Center. He was 67.

Mr. Hall was born in Warren County. He retired as a first sergeant in the Army after 20 years of service. After moving to Saginaw, he was employed at Saginaw V.A. Medical Center as an admitting clerk. He was a member of New Mount Calvary Baptist Church where he was on the brotherhood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lurlean Smith Hall Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Slestean Hall of Saginaw; six sons, David Hall of Tacoma, Wash., Timothy Hall, Thomas Hall and John Patrick Hall, all of Seattle, Wash., and Peter Hall and Phillip Hall, both of Miami, Fla.; three daughters, Diane Young and Judy Pork, both of Miami, and Debra Taylor of Macon, Ga.; a brother, Floyd Hall of Vicksburg; a sister, Dessie Hutson of Vicksburg; six stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Saginaw with the Rev. R.E. Donald officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Saginaw under the direction of Brownes Mortuary.
