Freshman Michael Head took less than 15 minutes to turn a hat trick, then tacked on a fourth goal in the second half as St. Aloysius booted Cathedral, 8-0, Tuesday night.

John Theobald also had a hat trick, scoring two of his three goals in the second half, as the Flashes (5-1) won their fifth in a row.

“We didn’t want to run it up,” said St. Al coach Shirley Agostinelli, who started substituting and rotating positions after taking a 3-0 lead. “We just dominated. I don’t think they got the ball past midfield 10 times.”

The Green Wave (1-2) haven’t beaten the Flashes in their four years to field a team.

Beau Theobald took a pass from brother Joe Theobald for the Flashes’ first goal eight minutes in. Five minutes later, Head pushed the ball just under the hand of Green Wave goalie Blas Gaudie, then followed his own shot from the front of the goal six minutes after that. At the 26-minute mark, Head sneaked in his third goal from the left side of the goal. With less than five minutes to go in the half, John Theobald outran the defense and booted the ball into the back of the net for a 5-0 lead at the break.

“St. Al just has tremendous speed and ball control,” Cathedral coach Rocky Kettering said. “They were faster than we anticipated. Their speed was the reason for at least three of their goals.”

John Theobald scored on another breakaway 20 minutes into the second half, then Head tapped one more in a minute later. Five minutes after that, John Theobald boomed in his third goal of the night.

The Flashes outshot the Green Wave, 25-2.

“We were basically just doing passing drills in the second half,” Agostinelli said.

She was happy to beat St. Al’s archrival, but with Greenville-St. Joseph and St. Andrew’s coming up Monday and Tuesday, Agostinelli isn’t complacent.

“Our tests are coming,” she said.
