A Port Gibson man was killed Saturday morning and a Warren County man is in jail after a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 61 South. A third man was hospitalized.

Mario Lush, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 2:18 a.m. by Warren County Coroner Ronald Regan after the 1994 Nissan pickup in which he was riding was hit from behind by a car driven by Larry Thompson, 28, 14200 U.S. 61 South, said Warren Strain, public information officer with the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol.

Thompson, who was driving a 1997 Pontiac south on U.S. 61 South when his car hit the back of the pickup about 10 miles south of Vicksburg, was arrested on charges of DUI and reckless driving, Strain said.

Thompson was in the Warren County Jail late Saturday. No bond had been set, and police would not say if charges would be upgraded.

The driver of the pickup, Nathaniel Williams, 5015 Rollingwood Estates Drive, Vicksburg, was taken to ParkView Regional Medical Center, where he remained late Saturday. Family members said Williams was in stable condition.

Lush was not wearing a seat belt, Strain said.

He was the seventh person killed in a car wreck in Warren County this year.
