CHARLES ERIC FOWLER

Charles Eric Fowler died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 67.

A native of Jones, La., Mr. Fowler had lived in Vicksburg for the past five years. He was the son of the late Pete Fowler and Mabel Jones. He was a truck driver and a member of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by several cousins, three uncles and an aunt.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

JENNIE RUTH REEVES HARRIS

Services for Jennie Ruth Reeves Harris will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bingham Memorial M.B. Church with the Rev. Leon Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 Wednesday night at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and from noon Thursday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Harris died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in Meridian. She was 66.

Mrs. Harris retired as an educator from the Vicksburg Warren School District after 32 years. She was a member of Bingham Memorial Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emanuel W. Reeves Sr. and Marie Gladys Singleton Reeves, and two sisters, Ruby Carminier and Carrie Williams.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Harris Sr. of Vicksburg; a son, Charles Harris Jr. of Atlanta; four daughters, Regina H. Jones of Memphis and Ethel M. Harris, Cecelia R. Harris Jackson and Kristine H. McDonald, all of Vicksburg; seven brothers, Samuel J. Reeves, Levy Reeves and Dannie Reeves, all of Oakland, Calif., Bennie Reeves of Miami, Fla., David Reeves Sr. of Jackson, Emanuel Reeves Jr. of Cordova, Tenn., and Dewey Reeves of Upper Marlboro, Md.; three sisters, Lucille Simmons of Denver, Colo., Doris Reeves of Oakland and Wanda Wade of Zion, Ill.; six grandchildren; and other relatives, including Christa Sturgis of Vicksburg.

MARIO LUSH

PORT GIBSON Services for Mario Lush were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at King David Christian Church in Hermanville with Willie Wilson officiating. Burial followed at the Jennings family Cemetery in Hermanville under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

Mr. Lush died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident. He was 20.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lois and Mike Embry.

He is survived by two daughters, Amauria D. Lush and Alexis Alexander, both of Vicksburg; his mother, Denise Lush of Port Gibson; his father, Hershel Emory of Maywood, Ill.; maternal grandparents, Sam Lush Sr. of Hermanville and Grace Rowan of Chicago; three brothers, Michael Lush and Marion Lush, both of Norfolk, Va., and James M. Spencer of Port Gibson; three sisters, JshNice Cain of Jackson and Regina Lush and Vanise Lush, both of Port Gibson; and other relatives including Joya P. Clyde of Vicksburg and Willie and Stella Greenwood, both of Port Gibson.

MARY LEE NEWMAN

Mary Lee Newman died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at her home. She was 82.

Born in Itta Bena, Mrs. Newman had lived in Vicksburg since 1938. She was a 1936 graduate of Mississippi Women’s College, now William Carey, in Hattiesburg. She was a volunteer with the Red Cross, children’s code commission and Girl Scouts. She was on the board of the Salvation Army, former chairman of the United Way fund and served as a volunteer for Mercy Hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was director of the junior Sunday school department.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.J. Newman.

She is survived by three sisters, Love Spinks of Vidalia, La., Virginia Quarels of Clinton and E. Ann Price of Richmond, Va.; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Dr. John G. McCall officiating and at 2 p.m. at Midway Cemetery in Meadville.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Tucker, Arthur Compere, Chester Leland Quarels, Steven Quarels, Mark Quarels, Dan Stewart, Jack Maxwell and David Yates.

MARIE L. VER BECK

Marie L. Ver Beck died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 94.

A native of Wanecka, Ill., she was the daughter of the late J.Q. and Marie B. Syme.

Mrs. Ver Beck had lived in Vicksburg for the past 50 years and had been a federal employee. She was also a philanthropist, contributing to many local causes. The Ver Beck Branch YMCA is named in her family’s honor. She was of the Catholic faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett C. Ver Beck.

She is survived by several cousins of New Orleans.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. James O’Riordan officiating under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Herbert Wilkerson, Grey Ferris, Landman Teller, Rusty Hawkins, Edgar Allen and Randy Shell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Schmidt, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Clingan, Dr. James P. Guerriero, Mr. and Mrs. John Collins, Peggy Teller, Doris Ann Woods, Shelby Ferris, Katie Larry and Philip Wells.
