GROVER RANKIN

LORMAN Grover Rankin died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at his home in Lorman. He was 86.

Mr. Rankin worked at Our Mart Grocery Store for a number of years. He was a member of St. Mark M.B. Church and a member and worshipful master of Sunrise Lodge No. 579 in Lorman. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include three brothers, Ezekiel Rankin, Albert Rankin and Elias Rankin, all of Lorman; a sister, Canary Brinston of New Orleans; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Services were at 1 p.m. Sunday at East Mount Olive Baptist Church in Red Lick with the Rev. Isaac Henderson officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

LILLIE ELVIRA BROOKS

Lillie Elvira Brooks died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at her home. She was 84.

Ms. Brooks was a retired midwife and a member of King Solomon M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Brooks; her mother, Lucille Wilson Brooks, and her stepmother, Margaret Brooks.

She is survived by a son, Rogers Brooks of Vicksburg; a daughter-in-law, Katherine Brooks of Vicksburg; a daughter, Nettie Marie Brooks of Austin, Texas; a brother, Lee James Brooks of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Margaret Long of San Diego; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

JAMES “JIM” BROWN

James “Jim” Brown died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at his home. He was 88.

Mr. Brown was retired from the City of Vicksburg where he worked in the maintenance department. He was a member of the Mr. Zion Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Brown Sr.; his mother, Mollie Pollard Brown; four brothers, Dennis Brown Jr., Red Brown, Evan Brown and Robert Lee Brown Sr.; and two sisters, Mary Clinton and Matlean Woods.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Watkins Brown of Vicksburg; two sons, Columbus Watkins of Milwaukee and Bobby J. Brown of Jackson; one daughter, Mollie Brown Jackson of Texarkana, Texas; two brothers, Henry Brown of Vicksburg and Wesley Brown of Battle Creek, Mich.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services were at noon Monday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home. Burial followed at Mr. Zion Cemetery in Claiborne County.

VICTOR B. KOOCK

OCEAN SPRINGS Victor B. Koock died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in Ocean Springs. He was 88.

Mr. Koock was a native of New York City and had been a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast for the past 33 years. He was the former owner of Koockie’s Fashions in Ocean Springs and worked as a traveling salesman in women’s fashions.

Mr. Koock was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue in Biloxi.

He is survived by his wife, Klara R. Koock of Ocean Springs; a daughter, Lesley Silver of Vicksburg; a son, Victor I. Koock of New Orleans; a brother, Julian Koock of Akron, Ohio; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Beth Israel Synagogue in Biloxi.
