[01/10/01] Warren Central lost at West Monroe in the final seconds Tuesday, 35-34.

The Lady Vikes (16-4) were up by a point with 15 seconds when they were called for traveling. Then Michelle Biley “pushed Lia Green down and scored” to put the home team ahead, WC coach Donny Fuller said. After a missed free throw, WC’s JaQuita Benard got the rebound and threw a length-of-the-court pass to Green, whose arm was being held by a defender, Fuller said.

“It was the best-called game I’d ever played in Louisiana up to that point,” Fuller said.

Green finished with 14 points and Benard had eight.

Shani Armstrong had 12 points for the Lady Rebels (18-4), who beat Warren Central in the season-opener.

Carlton Bradford scored 10 points for Warren Central, but the Vikings (8-10) “didn’t have an answer,” for West Monroe’s Michael Turner, WC coach John Duett said. “He’s 6-6 and a pogo stick.”

Turner, a highly touted recruit in basketball and as a wide receiver, had 15 points while Aaron Branch and Akeem White added 14 and 12, respectively.

“We played the tempo we wanted and we defended well, but we had problems scoring,” said Duett, whose team held the Rebels (19-5) to 18 points in the first half while scoring only 14.

Sherman Logan had eight points and Kevin Coker added seven for WC, which plays at division foe Greenville Friday.
