DONNA CHAPMAN

Donna Chapman died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 46.

Mrs. Chapman was born in Attala County and lived most of her life in the Durant Community. She had lived in Vicksburg for the past 17 years. She was a second-grade teacher with the Vicksburg Warren School District. She was a graduate of Mississippi College and a member of Bowmar Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Chapman of Vicksburg; three daughters, Shelly Chapman, Kristin Chapman and Courtney Chapman, all of Vicksburg; two sisters, Wanda Causey of Union and Lib Clark of Kosciusko; a brother, Mike Crowder of Grenada; her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Dickerson of Sollis; and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Terry White and Johnny Welborn officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 Thursday night at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Gaylan McGregor, Ronald Goldman, Tim Sumrall, Carl Stokes, Earl Wallace and Kevin Manton.

EUGENE COUTCH

Eugene Coutch died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 80.

Mr. Coutch was born in Claiborne County and had lived in Utica most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Australia under Gen. McArthur. He moved to the Chapel Hills community in 1951, where he purchased a 200-acre farm. He retired from Hinds County Road Department and was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church in Utica.

He is survived by two sons, Phillip Coutch of Vicksburg and Frankie Coutch of Utica; three daughters, Jeanette Pritchett of Houston, Texas, Judy Middleton of Ridgeland and Wanda Taylor of Richland; a sister, Willie Conerly of Utica; a brother, Jim Coutch of Yazoo City; three grandsons; five stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Marshall Killcrease officiating. Burial will follow at Faith Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 Thursday night at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.

Pallbearers will be Bob Middleton, Larry Taylor, Charlie Pritchett, Ken Hale, Fred Rials, Troy Dessell, Murray Griffin and R.E. Mobley.

Memorials may be made to the Faith Baptist Church building fund, Highway 18, Berry Road, Utica, MS 39175.

ABBIE LEWIS

Services for Abbie Lewis will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Holy Hill M.B. Church with the Rev. Booker T. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Lewis Cemetery under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until the service Saturday at the church. Rites of the Eastern Star will be at 6 p.m. Friday.

Repast will follow the service at Grove Street Elementary School.

Mrs. Lewis died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at her home. She was 101.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, she was a housewife and a member of Holy Hill Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Lewis Sr.; a son, Lt. David “Sharkey” Lewis Jr.; sisters; brothers; and a grandchild.

She is survived by her son, Leroy Lewis of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

GOLDIE MASSEY

Goldie Massey died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 57.

Mrs. Massey was born in Beaumont, Texas, and had lived in Vicksburg for the past 37 years.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce Massey of Vicksburg; a sister, Stella Turner of Vicksburg; and a brother, Tommy Frith of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service Friday at the funeral home.

MERLE MEACHAM RODGERS

Merle Meacham Rodgers died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Atria Assisted Living in Lawrenceville, Ga. She was 95.

Mrs. Rodgers was a native and longtime resident of Vicksburg. She was the daughter of the late William Matthew and Jenny Kemper Meacham. She was the longest and oldest living member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Rodgers; two brothers, Kemper Meacham and Ty Meacham; and a sister, Jeannette Middlebrooks.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy S. McBride of Los Alamitos, Calif., and Betsy Cummins of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a brother, Wayne Meacham of Vicksburg; two sisters, Valera Vollor and Maude Wilson, both of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with Dr. David McIntosch officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 Thursday night at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Chris Selby, Robert Selby, John Cummins Jr., Paul Cummins, Brian Cummins and Jase Cummins.
