DAVID A. GAMBLE

Services for David A. Gamble will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas McGing officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, with the wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Gamble died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001. He was 36.

A roofing contractor, he was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and founder and owner of River City Roofing Co. He was a member of the Mississippi Roofing Contractors Association and of the AMS Roof Advisory Board.

He was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School and attended Hinds Community College and Mississippi State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force Reserves and a parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church.

Mr. Gamble was preceded in death by his parents, A.A. and Dorothy Bodron Gamble.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Rogillio Gamble of Vicksburg; three daughters, Alexandra Ellen, Sarah Dayton and Claire Victoria Gamble, all of Vicksburg; four sisters, Gayle Warren of Jackson and Karen Gamble, Alexis Frisbee and Sharon Andrews, all of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including an aunt, Anna Claire Gamble of Vicksburg.

Pallbearers will be Greg Hull, Alex Frisbee, Clay Morgan, Larry Montpelier, Martin Hogan, Jim Conway, Ronnie Rowland and Carl Brown.

Honorary pallbearers will be Delia Strawn, Raymond Abraham, Kevin Goza, Ricky Lowery, Terrell Stewart and members of the Mississippi Roofing Contractors Association.

Memorials may be made to Vicksburg Catholic School, the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi or the American Cancer Society.

BERNIE Y. JOHNSON

Bernie Y. Johnson died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans. He was 53.

Born in Pascagoula, Mr. Johnson was a former resident of Natchez and had lived most of his life in Vicksburg. Mr. Johnson had served as a partner of the Red Barn Fix-It shop for more than 16 years and had been employed with Bechtel Corporation, Marathon-LeTourneau and Foam Packaging. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and later in the Army National Guard with the 131st Aviation Group. He was a member of the VFW, the Non-Commissioned Officer Group and Highland Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Y. Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Nell Johnson of Vicksburg; a daughter, Brandy Johnson of Vicksburg; a son, Travis Johnson of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including two aunts, Martha Fernstom and Catherine Little, both of Vicksburg.

Military services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at green Acres Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Ivey, pastor of Highland Baptist Church, officiating under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Sgt. Travis Y. Johnson, Sgt. 1st Class Jim Selden, Command Sgt. Maj. Richard Brooks and Sgt. Maj. Chuck Evans.

ZURI VERNON MATTE JONES

Zuri Vernon Matte Jones died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. He was 20 months.

Zuri is survived by his mother, Calandra Jones of Rolling Fork; a sister, Jaila Jones of Rolling Fork; and his grandfather, Vernon O. Jones of Rolling Fork.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elmwood Cemetery in Rolling Fork under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.
