[01/23/01] A former Lake Providence police officer is free on bond after an audit revealed cash and records missing from the office where she worked.
Four counts each of theft and malfeasance filed by Louisiana State Police resulted in the arrest of Tashanna Green last week, said Sgt. Lee Harrell. She was released after posting $25,000 bond.
Harrell said the state police became involved in the case after receiving a call from Lake Providence Mayor Bobby Amacker.
“During an annual audit, they discovered some money missing and asked us to look into it,” Harrell said.
The detectives found that between $600 and $700 in cash was missing along with a large number of records.
It appeared Green had been taking money from people to pay traffic tickets, pocketing the money and destroying the tickets.
He said Green had been hired as a police officer but most of her duties were in the police department office. She is no longer employed by the Lake Providence Police Department.
