[01/22/01] Terrance Collins started the powerlifting season with a bang Saturday at the Vicksburg Invitational.

The 220-pound senior at Vicksburg High, set three meet records and earned best heavyweight lifter honors in leading the Gators to a easy win over Natchez, Warren Central and Gentry.

Collins’ records in the squat (580 pounds), dead lift (565) and bench press (325) gave him a total lift of 1,470 pounds, 200 more than his closest competition.

The Gators finished with 64 points, while Natchez had 35, Warren Central 34 and Gentry 25. Four schools did not show up.

Michael Ross, a 123-pounder at Vicksburg, won the best lightweight lifter honors with a total lift of 990 pounds.

Danny Robinson (114 pounds), James Judge (132) and Deonta Selvy (275) all earned first places.

Vicksburg’s Darrell Williams (148), Vance Gray (181), Tavares Hatchett (198), Tim Brown (242) and Andre Bennett (superheavyweight) took firsts for the Gators.

Brown edged Warren Central’s Tyler DeRossette, both linebackers on their respective football teams, by just 10 pounds.
