HENRY L. BATTLE
Henry L. Battle died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 84.
Mr. Battle was a veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Tyner Ford Post 213, Hanging Bluff Lodge No. 115 and Shiloh M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mose Battle and Cynthia Warren Battle; four brothers, Mose Battle Jr., James Battle, Lawrence Battle and Matthew Battle; two sisters, Emma Williams and Lula Gillins.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Battle of Redwood; a son, Eugene Cobbins of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a daughter, Emma M. Thomas of Vicksburg; a sister, Christina Candy of Vicksburg; 14 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, 45 great-great-grandchildren and other relatives.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
WILLIE MAE BUFORD
Services for Willie Mae Buford were at 2 p.m. Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Burial followed under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Miss Buford died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 44.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Clara Collins Buford.
She is survived by a sister, Betty J. William-Smith of Pleasanton, Calif.; and other relatives.
MARY LEE EDWARDS
PORT GIBSON Mary Lee Edwards died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at her home. She was 77.
Miss Edwards was preceded in death by her parents, Quillie Edwards and Lee Anna Lewis Edwards; three brothers, Topeta Edwards, D.C. Edwards and Verona Edwards; and two sisters, Willie B. Coleman and Adell Edwards.
She is survived by six sisters, N. Elaine Kendricks of Washington, D.C., Thelma Walker of Port Gibson, LeAnna Tarleton and R.V. Barnes, both of Hermanville, Essie King of Madison, Fla., and Louvenia Edwards of Jackson; and other relatives including the Rev. Samuel Kendricks Sr. of Washington, D.C.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Temple Church of Christ Holiness, U.S.A. with the Rev. Iverson Davis Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Thompson Memorial Garden Cemetery in Port Gibson.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.
PERCY EDWARDS JR.
BOLTON Services for Percy “Preacher” Edwards Jr. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Church in Bolton. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Bolton Funeral Home.
Mr. Edwards died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at his home in Bolton. He was 79.
Mr. Edwards was a retired 20-year military veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Anne W. Edwards of Bolton; eight sons, Percy Edwards III of Hammond, Ind., Bruce Edwards of Vicksburg, Darrell Edwards of Bolton and Brian Edwards, Rodney Edwards, Randolph Edwards, Vincent Edwards and Kelvin Edwards, all of Jackson; six daughters, Barbara McElroy of Jackson, Linda Edwards and Cheryl A. Edwards, both of Bolton, Gertrude McDougle and Patricia Jimerson, both of Clinton, and Lillie M. Lewis of Port Arthur, Texas; three brothers, J.C. Edwards, James Edwards and William Edwards; two sisters; 26 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Janice Edwards and ReShina Edwards.
WILLIE B. LOVE
Services for Willie B. “Baby Sister” Love will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Nettles officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Love died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in Portland, Ore. She was 66.
She was a former resident of Vicksburg. She was a member of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius Love and Lena Mae Love Hatton; and a brother, Tony Hatton.
She is survived by her husband, Cleotha Black of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Henry Hatton of Vicksburg; three sisters, Mary Love of Vicksburg and Nancy Hatton and Betty Oby, both of Baton Rouge; and other relatives.
