HENRY L. BATTLE

Services for Henry L. Battle will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shiloh M.B. Church with the Rev. Douglas Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Battle died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 84.

Mr. Battle was a veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Tyner Ford Post 213, Hanging Bluff Lodge No. 115 and Shiloh M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mose Battle and Cynthia Warren Battle; four brothers, Mose Battle Jr., James Battle, Lawrence Battle and Matthew Battle; two sisters, Emma Williams and Lula Gillins.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia Battle of Redwood; a son, Eugene Cobbins of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a daughter, Emma M. Thomas of Vicksburg; a sister, Christina Candy of Vicksburg; 14 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 45 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

GEORGE GUS GIRARD

WARREN, Ohio George Gus Girard died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren, Ohio. He was 83.

Born in Greenville, Mr. Girard was a former resident of Vicksburg before settling in Warren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George G. Girard and Viola Wadford; and a sister, Velma Girard.

He is survived by a daughter, Sandy Girard Seiler of Memphis; a son, George Girard Jr. of Vicksburg; a sister, Odria Murphy of Vicksburg; a brother, Leroy Girard of Jackson; five grandchildren, Carol Sargent of Nashville, David Girard and Susan Cupit, both of Vicksburg, Ruth Ann Seiler of Memphis and Sheila Seiler of Boston; one great-grandchild, Ryan Cupit of Vicksburg, and other relatives.

A private memorial service was Saturday.

JAMES EDWIN HOFFMAN

TALLULAH James Edwin Hoffman died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Louisiana State University-Monroe Medical Center. He was 47.

Mr. Hoffman was born in Delhi and lived in Tallulah most of his life. He was a general contractor and a member of the Pentecostal faith.

Mr. Hoffman is survived by two daughters, Jacoba Marie Hoffman of West Monroe and Savannah Jena Ard of Tallulah; his mother, Frances G. Hoffman of Tallulah; three sisters, Virginia Byrd of Gilbert, La., Bobbie Wooten of Tallulah and Claudette Johnson of Crowville, La.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah with the Revs. DeWayne Whittington and Greg Nichols officiating.

Pallbearers were Joel Hoffman, Richard Hoffman, Larry Ghrigsby and Jessie Brewer.
