PCA’s Willis tops 3,000 points

[01/29/01] Another night, another milestone for E.J. Willis.

The Porters Chapel Academy senior dropped in 34 points, surpassing the 3,000-point mark with a layup at the first-quarter buzzer of PCA’s 77-62 win.

“It feels really good,” said Willis, who had 11 rebounds. “I forgot about it before the game, so I really wasn’t keeping track … .”

The game was stopped briefly in the fourth quarter and Willis was presented with the game ball.

“I’m glad. I’m tickled for her. I wish they could have done more, but the rules say you can only stop the game just for a minute,” PCA coach Mitchell Willis said.

Briarfield (2-6 in conference) outrebounded PCA 17-13 in the first half and hit 58 percent of its shots to head into the break with a 34-34 tie against PCA (20-8, 6-0).

But PCA opened the half with an 11-2 run. Brady Willis added 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Kelly Ashley added 12.

Jessica Tomlinson led Briarfield with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Jackie Brown scored 17.
