MARY LUE BROWN

ROLLING FORK Mary Lue Brown died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 54.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and member of Woodland M.B. Church in Fitler.

She was preceded in death by her father, Nathan Brown; her mother, Daisy Mae Williams Brown; and three brothers, Fred Brown, Robert Brown and Eddie Brown; and one sister, Minnie Brown.

Mrs. Brown is survived by three sons, Quinless Brown of Cary, Charles Cole of Vicksburg and Michael Brown of Fitler; two daughters, Vera Brown and Carrie M. Cole, both of Fitler; two brothers, Noria Brown of Cary and David Brown of Los Angeles; five sisters, Eunice Miller and Annie Conner, both of Vicksburg, Mattie Lindsey and Rose Ella Brown, both of Cary, and Daisy Ellis of New Orleans; 17 grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements were being handled by W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

ANNIE LAURA CONE

Annie Laura Cone died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, in Pineville, La. She was 83.

Mrs. Cone had lived in Vicksburg since 1949 and had been employed by McRae’s as a saleswoman. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Cone, in 1987.

Mrs. Cone is survived by her daughter, Wanda Pogue of Pineville; her sister, Nell Hayes of Anderson, S.C.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Chapel with the Revs. Gerald Martin and Carl Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Clyde McKinney, Dennis Moore, David Oldenburg, Charie Ervin, Walter Hardy and Phil Ervin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carroll Smith, Carroll Warnock, Robert Smith, Bill Messina and J.B. Middleton.

JOHN H. LANG SR.

ANGUILLA John H. Lang Sr. died Saturday, Feb. 3. 2001, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 77.

Mr. Lang, a lifelong resident of Sharkey County, attended Mississippi State College, and he was a Delta farmer for more than 50 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was of the Methodist faith.

He was preceded in death by a son, John H. Lang Jr., in 1977; and three brothers, Bill Lang, Thomas Lang and Lewis Lang.

Mr. Lang is survived by his wife, Dot P. Lang of Anguilla; his daughter, Sharman Lang of Tupelo; his sister, Alice O’Connor of San Antonio, Texas; and his grandson, John H. “Jay” Lang III of Greenville.

Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Reese Kyzar officiating. Burial followed at Mound Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Russell Stewart, Pat Patterson, Bill Patterson, Willie Jack Willingham, Tony McIntyre and Jay Lang.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation.

FRED RICHARD LYNN

Fred Richard Lynn died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 69.

Mr. Lynn was born in St. Joseph and had lived in Vicksburg for 65 years. He was a retired supervisor for R.G. LeTourneau Inc. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Masonic Temple and Eastern Star and of Redbone United Methodist Church.

Mr. Lynn is survived by his wife, Grace S. Lynn of Vicksburg; two sons, Todd Lynn and Stacey Lynn, both of Vicksburg; four daughters, Nora Lancaster of Bolton, Connie Norwood and Kathy McAuley, both of Vicksburg, and Tracy Danczk of Yuma, Ariz.; five brothers, Raymond Lynn of Oregon City, Texas, George Lynn, Johnny Lynn and James Lynn, all of Vicksburg, and Jerry Lynn of Bossier City, La.; two sisters, Frances Holiday of Biloxi and Patricia Barnes of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Sam Dunaway and Claire Biedenharn officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Lancaster, Todd Lancaster, Justin Lynn, Joe Lynn, Billy Lynn and Chris Lynn.

REX M. STAGGS

Rex M. Staggs died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home in Vicksburg. He was 73.

Mr. Staggs was born in Arkansas and had lived in Vicksburg for 50 years. He retired from R.G. LeTourneau Inc. in 1988. A descendent of the Modoc tribe, he was a member of the American Indian Association.

Mr. Staggs was preceded in death by his parents, James F. and Elizabeth Hall Staggs, and two brothers, O.L. Baldwin and E.L. Baldwin.

Mr. Staggs is survived by his wife, Christene W. Staggs of Vicksburg; two sons, Ronald Staggs and Kenneth Staggs, both of Vicksburg; three daughters, Lorette Ashley and Sheila Staggs, both of Vicksburg, and Tina Rawson of Madison; three brothers, Jessie Staggs of Vicksburg and Doug Staggs and Chuck Staggs, both of Texarkana, Ark.; two sisters, Alene Ashley and Annie Hart, both of Texarkana, Ark.; and 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Anderson officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ellis Height, Denton Threet, Johnny Roland, Robert Dale Staggs, Mike Thompson and Larry Zinc.

HENRY O. JAMES

Henry O. “Hank” James died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 81.

Mr. James was born in Taylor County, Texas, and was reared in Merkel. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1946, was a gun commander and was stationed at the POW Camp Command Units in Merigold and Belzoni, Miss. He moved to Rosedale in 1951 and owned and operated James’ Sandwich Shop until 1969.

He was also a building contractor and had worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement in 1982.

Mr. James lived in Rena Lara from 1982 until 1993 at which time he moved to Vicksburg.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia C. “Jennie” James and his parents, Julia and Jonathan James.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Gail and Don LaGrone of Vicksburg; one granddaughter, Leslie B. Ross of Clinton; and members of the Stuart and Hoda families of Gautier.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Church with the Rev. James O’Riordan officiating. Burial was at 2:30 Monday at Belzoni City Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were James Stuart, Bobby Hoda, Barry LaGrone, Bobby LaGrone, John Raymond Bassic and John Lindigrin.

Honorary pallbearers were John “Buck” Frazier, John Frazier Jr., Dr. Michael Davis, Dr. L.P. Neumann, Dr. Thomas Sligh and the staffs of The Olive Branch Senior Care Center in Tallulah, Madison Parish Hospital and Vicksburg Medical Center, second floor East.
