CHARLES EDWARD BARLAND

PORT GIBSON Charles Edward Barland died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at his home in Port Gibson. He was 79.

Mr. Barland was a native and lifelong resident of Claiborne County. He graduated from Hermanville High School and attended Hinds Junior College. He joined the Army Signal Corps during World War II and fought in the third wave during the D-Day invasion. He was a retired farmer. He served on county agricultural committees, the Port Gibson Bank Board of Directors and the Farmer’s Co-Op Board of Directors. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Disharoon Barland of Port Gibson; a son, Charles E. Barland Jr. of Hermanville; a daughter, Flo Ruth Strawn of Port Gibson; three granddaughters, Mandy Strawn, Lindsay Strawn and Julie Strawn, all of Port Gibson; and other relatives including Kenny Strawn of Port Gibson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Port Gibson. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service Tuesday at the church.

Pallbearers will be John Noble, Dr. Mike Davis, Hasie Marsalis, Dr. Eddie Lipscomb, Isaiah Windmon, Robert Burnett, Willis Wolfe and Jim Cassell Jr.

TERRANCE MICHAEL BROWN JR.

FAYETTE Terrance Michael Brown Jr., infant son of Koleshia O’Quinn and Terrance Michael Brown Sr. of Union Church, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at University Medical Center in Jackson.

Terrance was preceded in death by an uncle, Lee A. Durrell Jr.; and an aunt, Barbara Ann O’Quinn.

In addition to his parents, Terrance is survived by a sister, Danielle Johnson of Stampley; his maternal grandparents, Kathie O’Quinn and Jerome Jackson, both of Union Church, and Derrick Durrell of Biloxi; his maternal great-grandparents, Essie Mae O’Quinn of Union Church and Cora and Lee Durrell Sr., both of Fayette; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Sherley Wyatt of Fayette and Herman and Debbie Brown of Fayette; and other relatives.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Hickory Block Cemetery in Union Church with the Rev. F.L. Pendleton officiating under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Fayette.

VIRGINIA MASSEY ROSS

Virginia “Angel” Massey Ross died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001. She was 25.

Mrs. Ross was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She attended Vicksburg High School and was a student at Hinds Community College. She was employed with River Region Medical Center and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles and Virginia Kackley; and her grandmother, Lucy Monk King.

She is survived by two daughters, Ashtin Ross and Julianna Ross, both of Vicksburg; a son, William Ross of Vicksburg; her parents, Charles and Mary Massey, of Vicksburg; a sister, Jessica Massey of Vicksburg; and a brother, Chad Massey of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Sam Dunaway, Charles Kackley and Jackie Kackley officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Timmy Hynum, Jimmy Kackley, Virgil Massey, Chris Ross, Corwin Bradley and Jim O’Conner.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Perkins, Tom King, Sonny Massey and Jeffrey Kackley.

OSCAR B. SeWELL

Oscar B. SeWell died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. He was 93.

Mr. SeWell retired from the City of Vicksburg in 1991. He was also a self-employed builder. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Owsley SeWell; a daughter, Jeanette SeWell Harding; and two sons, Gene Suell and Raymond Suell.

He is survived by a son, Jimmy SeWell of Vicksburg; a daughter, Patricia Blakeney of Shreveport; a stepdaughter, JoAnn Hearn of Vicksburg.; grandchildren including Debra and Paul Conerly of Vicksburg; and great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 Monday night and from 11 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Paul Conerly, Pat Hearn, Greg Hearn, James Hearn Jr., J.C. Conerly and Kyle Sheffield.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cary Grantham and James Hearn Sr.
