St. Al splits with Cathedral

[02/07/01] Lee Wiles had 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead St. Aloysius to a 53-36 win over archrival Cathedral Tuesday night. Wiles scored nine in the fourth quarter as the Flashes (7-16) pulled away.

Chris Bass chipped in nine points and five rebounds for St. Al, which lost to the Green Wave in overtime in their last meeting. St. Al coach Paul Hayden said Michael Mazzanti’s defense was one of the differences. Carey Thomas led Cathedral with 13.

Cathedral outscored the Lady Flashes 17-8 in the final quarter to get revenge for last month’s loss.

Leslie Dyess scored 12 for the Lady Flashes (12-11) and Kristen Patrick added seven. Starting forward Danielle Klaus went down with an ankle injury early. Hayden didn’t know her prognosis.

Krystal Groom had 13 for Cathedral.
