WC squads rebound, get road wins over Rams

[02/07/01] Lia Green scored six of her 22 points to lead Warren Central to a 61-54 overtime win at division foe Gentry Tuesday night. The Lady Vikes (22-7) will face the Lady Rams (17-11) again in the first round of the Division 3-5A tournament on Tuesday.

JaQuita Benard had 20 points and Wanda Calvin chipped in 12 for WC. Daffyne Cobbins led Gentry with 17.

“We turned it over too much down the stretch,” WC coach Donny Fuller said of the home team’s 21-point outburst in the fourth quarter, including Cobbins’ putback with three seconds left to tie it at 49.

The Lady Vikes were without point guard LaShanda Williams much of the time as she nursed a nagging foot injury.

(B) WC 50, Gentry 45

Sherman Logan came off the bench to score 16 points, eight in the fourth quarter, as the Vikings (13-14) won their second straight over the perennial powerhouse.

Justin Green had nine points for the Vikings, who came back from a 23-20 deficit at the half.

WC, which was coming off a tough loss to archrival Vicksburg, will face Greenville in the first round of the division tournament Tuesday.
