St. Al squads throttle MSD

[02/08/01] Matt Horn hit seven of St. Aloysius’ 14 3-pointers and finished with 21 points to lead the Flashes to an 85-59 throttling of MSD Wednesday.

Lee Wiles had 11 points had nine rebounds and Clay Simmons had 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocks for the Flashes (7-16), who led 39-18 at the half. Michael Mazzanti had nine points on three 3s. Horn also had three steals.

Brandon Minor led Mississippi School for the Deaf with 18.

“We’re playing our best basketball right now,” St. Al coach Paul Hayden said following his team’s best offensive performance of the season. “That should give us some confidence going into the tournament. We need to beat a team with a reputation.”

St. Al hosts division foe Enterprise Friday and the division tournament starts Monday.

Kristen Patrick had 15 points for the Lady Flashes (13-11), who exploded to a 17-0 start and led 25-2 at the break. Kelly Haden and Jen Barnes scored six apiece.
