GARLAND ORENE KIRKPATRICK

ST. JOSEPH Garland Orene Kirkpatrick died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at North Monroe Hospital. He was 78.

Mr. Kirkpatrick was born in Hall Summit, La., and had lived in Tensas Parish most of his life. He was a retired Big A Motor Supply dealer and was also retired from Agri Oil after 17 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of St. Joseph First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his son, John W. Kirkpatrick Sr.; and a grandson, John W. Kirkpatrick Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Burson Wafer Kirkpatrick of St. Joseph; a son, Ransdell Orene Kirkpatrick of Alexandria; a daughter, Carolyn Elaine Kirkpatrick of Epps; three brothers, Harold Kirkpatrick of St. Joseph, Cecil Kirkpatrick of New Mexico and Claude Edward Kirkpatrick of Newellton; two sisters, Dorothy Morgan of St. Joseph and Barbara Sue Davis of Columbia; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph First Baptist Church with Dr. Ray Robbins officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

Pallbearers will be Bennie Stansell, Sonny Simmons, Leroy McDaniel, Lloyd Poole, Russell Petersen and Buddy Tindell.

Honorary pallbearers will be John R. Coor and Oliver Berry.

MARY DABNEY NICHOLLS

Mary Dabney Nicholls died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 69.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Nicholls was the daughter of the late Frederic and Eloise Walne Dabney. She was a graduate of All Saints’ Episcopal School. She was a managing partner of the Dabney Company, president of the Dabney Investment Company and vice-president of the Frederic Yeamans Dabney Family Foundation. She was a lifetime member of the Vicksburg Junior Auxiliary, a member of Hester Flowers Garden Club and Christ Episcopal Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Nicholls.

She is survived by four daughters, Dabney Nicholls Haugh of Paducah, Ky., Kristin Nicholls Tedder of Natchez, Amy Nicholls Richmond of Vicksburg and Wendy Nicholls Wilhoit of Versailles, Ky.; a sister, Eloise Dabney de Verona of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; a brother, David Hunt Dabney of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Bill Livingston, rector, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

A visitation will follow burial at the Martha Vick House.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James Dupuy, Chuck McKesson, W.E. Wilson, Jerry Derivaux, Allen Hood, Richard Nicholls, Bill Longfellow and L.G. Hataway Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert de Verona, Leo Boolos, J. Richard Walne, Steve Butler, Frank Schleicher, Oscar LaBarre, Lucius Dabney, Robert Solis and Teddy Levi.

FLORENCE Evelyn P. O’QUINN

Florence E. O’Quinn died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 94.

A native of Vicksburg, Mrs. O’Quinn was the daughter of the late Horace and Evelyn Whitaker Powell. She had been a resident of Natchez before returning to Vicksburg 20 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William D. O’Quinn; a sister, Margaret Smith; and a nephew, Aubrey Smith.

Survivors include a brother, Walter C. Clark of Vicksburg; two nieces, Cynthia C. Warriner of Vicksburg and Margaret Barnett of LaMesa, Calif.; and a nephew, Walter Dainwood of New York City.

Services were at 11 a.m. today at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner officiating under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Charles Johnson, W.F. Grayson, Richard Jacobson, William M. Pace, Lesta T. Lee, Jim Warriner, Fred Groome Jr. and Louis Nichols.

ROSIE LEE SHANKS SHORTER

PORT GIBSON Rosie Lee Shanks Shorter died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at her home in Port Gibson. She was 64.

Mrs. Shorter was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Clara Mae Shanks; four brothers, Timothy Shanks, Nelson Shanks, Oliver Shanks and Samuel Shanks; and two sisters, Clara Shanks and Mildred Shanks.

She is survived by a brother, George Shanks of Chicago; five sisters, Dora Wren, Annie Mae Wilson and Shirley Jean Shanks-Barnes, all of Port Gibson, Johnnie Mae Shanks of Vandepooh, N.Y., and Mary Shanks of Chicago; and other relatives including Timothy Watson of Port Gibson and Turner Pelmore Jr. of Chicago.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rollins Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. Eddie Walls officiating. Burial will follow at Pattison Cemetery.

DONALD TINNIN

Donald Tinnin died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Summitt Hospital in West Monroe. He was 71.

Mr. Tinnin was a native of Bandzer, Mo., and had lived in Flint, Mich., most of his life. He lived in Vicksburg for the past three years. He was a member of First United Pentecostal Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Amul Tinnin; and three brothers, Norman Tinnin, Bob Tinnin and Harold Tinnin.

He is survived by two daughters, Caranita Tinnin and Donna Lamson, both of Flint; his mother, Jimmie Mae Lax of Vicksburg; two sisters, Jeanette Smith and Charleane Lax, both of Vicksburg; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Donald Tipton and Stephen Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Del Bagwell, Bobby Bagwell, Dathan Tipton, Gene Tinnin, Bobby Harris and William Yerber.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mary Jordan, Dr. Paul Pierce, Dr. Abdul Bahro and the nurses at ParkView Regional Medical Center and Summitt Hospital.

KELVIN WATSON

Kelvin Watson died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001. He was 28.

Mr. Watson was a member of Cool Spring M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joseph King.

He is survived by a daughter, Ronisha Johnson of Vicksburg; his parents, Deloris Watson and Freddie Hall, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Quincy Alexander Watson of Vicksburg and Freddie Fitergald Barnes of Indianapolis, Ind.; and other relatives including Gynette Carroll of Vicksburg.
