VHS-Columbus playoff game postponed by storm

[02/20/01] Vicksburg will begin its quest for a North State championship bid a day late against Columbus.

Because of storms that ripped through the Columbus area of Friday, the Division 2-5A championship game between Starkville and Columbus (26-5) was postponed until Monday.

The satellite game, originally scheduled for Tuesday night, was moved back to Wednesday. Game time for the Division 3-5A runnerup Gators (24-10) and the Falcons is set for 7 p.m.

Vicksburg held a 14-point lead late in its division championship game at Greenville Friday, but the Hornets came back and won by three. Greenville will meet No. 3 Starkville, also on Wednesday.

Elency Erby and Hosea Butler each scored 12 to lead the Falcons over Starkville, 62-52, Monday night.

With a win, Vicksburg advances to the North State Tournament at either South Panola or Murrah.
