Services for Samuel Lockhart will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Hope M.B. Church with the Rev. Frank Gardner Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until the service Saturday at the church.

Mr. Lockhart died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 79.

A native of Prentiss, Mr. Lockhart was a longtime resident of Vicksburg. He was a retired employee of the City of Vicksburg and a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Needem Lockhart and Millie Jones Lockhart; two sisters; and a brother.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lee Lockhart; two sons, Samuel Earl Lockhart and Roy Lee Lockhart, both of Collins; seven daughters, Lenora Jones, Deloyce Easterline, Emma Magee, Magdalene McLaurin, Darlene Lockhart, Barbara Lockhart and Bobbie Feaqelle, all of Collins; seven sisters, Bessie L. Berkhalter, Iris Sims, Ruth Buckley and Annie Mae Lockhart, all of Prentiss, Betty Strickland of Mount Olive, Lillie Mae Richardson of Tallulah and Edith Blake of Rockford, Ill.; three brothers, Junior Lockhart of Lake Providence, Johnny Lockhart of Prentiss and Joe Lockhart of Tucson, Ariz.; 50 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and other relatives.

HENRY LYONS JR.

Services for Henry “June” Lyons Jr. will be at noon Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Earl Cosey officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Yokena.

Mr. Lyons died Friday Feb., 16, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 54.

Mr. Lyons was retired and a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie W. Lyons; his parents, Henry Lyons Sr. and Willie Butler Lyons; a son, John Henry Lyons; and a brother Jimmy Lyons.

Mr. Lyons is survived by a daughter, Lyndia Kaye Williams of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Frances Williams of Vicksburg; a son, Michael Williams of Vicksburg; four stepsons, Herbert Williams, Billy Graham Williams, Larry Williams and Robert Williams, all of Vicksburg; four brothers, Willie Lyons, George Lyons, L.J. Lyons and Al Lyons, all of Vicksburg; a sister, Agnes M. Lyons of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews; and other relatives.

EMMA SMITH

Services for Emma “Susie” Smith will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Valley M.B. Church with the Rev. Alex Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until the service Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Smith died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 71.

She was a housekeeper and a member of Pleasant Valley M.B. Church, the Pleasant Valley Burial Society, St. Mark’s Burial Society and the Golden Leaf Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Smith; and her father, James Roberts.

She is survived by three sons, James Smith, George Smith and Robert Smith, all of Las Vegas; two daughters, Bernice Smith and Deloris Lott, both of Vicksburg; her mother, Johnnie Flagg of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and other relatives.

DORIS SHERMAN WOOD

TALLULAH Doris Sherman Wood died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. She was 84.

Mrs. Wood was born in Merigold and had lived in Tallulah for the past 59 years. She graduated from Delta State Teachers College where she received her teaching degree. She was an elementary school teacher in Tallulah for 20 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tallulah where she played the piano, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School and hosted the annual Easter egg hunt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, D.D. Wood; her parents, William H. and Susie Jones Sherman; and a grandson.

She is survived by three sons, Donald Wood, Robert Wood and Hubert Wood, all of Tallulah; two daughters, Judy Wood Lancaster of Mandeville, La., and Suzy Wood of Houston, Texas; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Tallulah with the Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church building fund, 700 Bayou Drive, Tallulah, La. 71282.

JAMES GRADY WYLY JR.

TALLULAH James Grady “Bub” Wyly Jr. died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe. He was 88.

Mr. Wyly was born in Lake Providence and had lived in Tallulah for the past 52 years. He owned Neely Plantation and was a retired planter. He was former president of the Madison Parish School Board, a member of Louisiana Cotton Association and the Louisiana Soybean Association. He was former director of Mississippi Royalties Corporation of Amory and Morgana Plantation. He was a volunteer in the Madison Little League Association and a member of First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Browning Wyly; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Grady Wyly Sr.; and two sisters, Martha Wyly Brown and Annie Ethel Wyly.

He is survived by a daughter, Myrtis Wyly of New Orleans; two sons, Fred Browning Wyly of Tallulah and James Grady Wyly of Bay St. Louis; two brothers, William Norris Wyly and Captain Jack Wyly, both of Lake Providence; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Hayes officiating.
