NANCY SPARLING BURKHARDT

Nancy Sparling Burkhardt died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 75.

Mrs. Burkhardt was a native of Little Rock and had lived in Tallulah. She studied music at Louisiana State University and in Chicago. She was a newspaper reporter in Tallulah and Fayetteville, Ark. She was a resident of Warren County for the past 40 years. She retired as a paralegal with the Vicksburg Hospital and served as chairman of the Warren County Election Commission for 24 years. She was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles E. and Mary Coleman Sparling.

She is survived by her husband, E.C. Burkhardt of Vicksburg; three sons, Charles E. Burkhardt of Starkville, Richard W. Burkhardt of Columbus and Michael P. Burkhardt of Auburn, Ala.; a brother, Arthur E. Sparling of Tallulah; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Bronson Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Mike Gettinger, Gene Parker, Bryum Cunningham, Motor Carr, Bobby Bailess and Richard George.

Honorary pallbearers will be Connie Williams, Doug Hassell, Dr. Chad Oliver, Earl Brasfield, Landman Teller Jr., Dr. W.K. Purks, Oren Bailess, Bud Tacke, Raymond May, Johnny Nassour and Vance Barnes.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1193, Vicksburg, MS 39181-1193.

ILA MAE TORIAN DODSON NELSON

UTICA Ila Mae Torian Dodson Nelson died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 92.

Mrs. Nelson was born in Kentucky and moved to Mississippi as a small child. She was a hairstylist and operated a country store she and her husband owned in Utica. She was also employed at The Valley for many years. She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of Hill City Lodge 707.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lloyd Dodson and Alan Nelson.

She is survived by a son, Ronnie Lee Dodson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a niece, Margaret Wilkinson of Vicksburg; three nephews, Robert Lee McReynolds of Jackson, B.A. McReynolds of Brandon and Robert Cecil McReynolds of Baton Rouge; and other relatives including, Bill Tillman and Jayne Tillman, both of Utica, and members of the Dodson family.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Utica Cemetery with the Rev. John Ed Snell officiating under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

LOU EMMA BAUGHN

CLINTON Lou Emma Baughn died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at her home in Clinton. She was 91.

Mrs. Baughn was a former resident of Vicksburg. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Talmadge Ed Baughn Sr.

She is survived by a son, Talmadge Baughn of Clinton; a sister, Grace Wilkes of Greenville; two grandsons, Darrell Baughn of Jackson and David Baughn of Nashville; and one great-grandson, Joey Baughn of Nashville.

Services were today at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.
