BESSIE LEWIS BOTTLEY

Bessie Lewis Bottley died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Center in Greenville. She was 83.

A homemaker, Mrs. Bottley was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Frances Walker Lewis; her husband, Jessie Bottley; four brothers, Tom Lewis, Walter Scott, Charlie Lewis and Forest Lewis; and three sisters, Annie Mitchell, Laura Bell and Ida Mae Perkins.

Survivors include two sons, Robert L. Nixon of Dallas and Percy Nixon of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Velma Brown, Jeraldine Ross and Rosie Nixon, all of Vicksburg; a brother, Sylvester Lewis of Pasadena, Calif.; two sisters, Stella Brown of Vicksburg and Mary Steverson of St. Louis, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

NADINE MORSE DUKE

TALLULAH Nadine Morse Duke died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Carroll Nursing Home in Oak Grove, La. She was 95.

Mrs. Duke was a native of Sykeston, Mo., and had lived in Tallulah for 55 years. A retired sales clerk, she was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tallulah and the Eastern Star.

Survivors include two nieces, one nephew and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services were at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Kelly officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah.

SHIRLEY SHIVERS GRAVES

YAZOO CITY James L. Graves Sr., 66, and Shirley Shivers Graves, 70, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, in an automobile accident on U.S. 49.

They were members of Calvary Baptist Church of Yazoo City.

A native of Sunflower County, Mr. Graves was retired as a truck driver from Southern Bag Corp. He served in the Army in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Owen Graves and Stella Ann Reynolds.

Mrs. Graves, a native of Lawrence County, was a private duty nurse. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Sills and Tama Polk.

Mr. Graves is survived by three sons, Bobby Graves and Robert Michael Graves, both of Vicksburg, and Jimmy Graves of Indianapolis, Ind.; two daughters, Wanda Purvis of Vicksburg and Betty Ann Walding of Ingram, Texas; a brother, J.M. Graves Sr. of Yazoo City; a sister, Geneva Lucas of Des Moines, Iowa; and 12 grandchildren.

Mrs. Graves is survived by two sons, Ricky Shivers of Yazoo City and Danny Shivers of Fayette, Ala.; a daughter, Pamela Ramshur of New Hebron; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were at 10 a.m. Thursday at Stricklin-King Funeral Home in Yazoo City with the Revs. Fuller Saunders and Richard Colwell officiating. Burial followed at Central Holmes Cemetery.

Pallbearers for Mr. Graves were Steve Sanford, J.M. “Nubbin” Graves Jr., Hubert Boutwell, Owen Graves, Gene Davis and Danny Ray Purvis.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Graves were Cecil Martin, James Farrish, Tommy Clay, George Jennings, Ken Allison and Ed Wilkes.

BARBARA ANN COOPER HALEY

Barbara Ann Cooper Haley died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at her home in Plano, Texas. She was 65.

Born in Natchez, Mrs. Haley was a 1953 graduate of Carr Central High School. She graduated from Mississippi State University, where she was a member of the band and Chi Omega sorority. She had lived in Plano since 1956 and was a member of Custer Road United Methodist Church in Plano.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard D. and Beryl Lowry Cooper Merrill; and her grandparents, Walter A. and Lona D. Lowry.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharon H. Ferguson of Plano; two sons, Chris Haley of Lake Dallas, Texas, and Pat Haley of Pearland, Texas; seven grandchildren; and an aunt, Marguerite Lowry Boyd of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Revs. Ed Hightower and Eric Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday and from noon Saturday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Oren Bailess, Luke Mobley, Jim Pickens, Roger Weill, Thomas Logue and Marvin Anderson.

THOMAS JAMES HAMILTON

PORT GIBSON Thomas James “T.J.” Hamilton died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Claiborne County Hospital. He was 85.

Mr. Hamilton was a Mason and member of Magnolia M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Hamilton.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas J. Hamilton of Port Gibson and Johnnie R. Hamilton of Atlanta; three daughters, Joyce Norrell, Sidney Hamilton and Carolyn Moore, all of Port Gibson; a stepdaughter, Mary Fountain of Fayette; a stepson, Robert L. Anderson Sr. of Fayette; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Magnolia M.B. Church with the Rev. James Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Pattison.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson and from noon Saturday until the service at the church.
