[03/02/01] Vicksburg Baseball Association tryouts for players ages 9-15 will be Saturday at the Raworth YMCA gymnasium from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Make-up tryouts will be Monday, 5-7 p.m., at Halls Ferry Park.
VBA officials opted to move the tryout location indoors rather than postpone another week.
Registration is continuing for 5-15-year-olds at The Sport Center and the city recreation department.
Tryouts were rained out last week and were rescheduled for Saturday.
But rain that moved into the area Tuesday has wreaked havoc on local sports all week.
More than a dozen high school baseball and softball games have been called off.
Porters Chapel Academy, which has yet to play a game, was rained out Tuesday and Thursday but will play Monday “no matter how wet the field is,” coach Randy Wright said.
A fast-pitch softball game between Vicksburg and Warren Central was washed out Thursday and Saturday’s Lady Vikes Invitational has already been rescheduled for March 24.
A division baseball game between St. Aloysius and Madison-St. Joe, scheduled for Friday, has been called off.
Warren Central likely won’t get to play again until Tuesday, when it hosts archrival Vicksburg in the division opener for both teams. The Gators, on the other hand, hold out hope that they will get to play Saturday. They are scheduled to travel to Harrison Central on the Gulf Coast, where the rain hasn’t been as heavy, to face the Red Rebels and George County.
Saturday morning’s Run Thru History will start at 8:30, as scheduled, unless there is lightning.
