Russell’s 38 leads WC past VHS on links

[03/07/01] Edward Russell shot a 38 to lead Warren Central to a 161-176 win over Vicksburg in their first matches of the season Tuesday at Clear Creek in Bovina.

Richard Rhett fired a 40, Anthony Klein had a 41 and Blake Strong recorded a 42 for the Vikings.

The Gators got 39s from Nade Ellis and Elliott Flaggs, but Kyle Richardson and Keith Ferguson both had 49s.

WC will be back in action March 19 when it faces St. Aloysius at the Vicksburg Country Club. The Gators go to Northwest Rankin Thursday.

In other spring sports, the defending state champion St. Aloysius tennis team lost its opening match to Northwest Rankin, 5-0, on Monday.

Warren Central’s netters were also shut out by the Cougars on Tuesday, 5-0. Madison Central blanked Vicksburg, 5-0.

VHS will be back on the court at Northwest Rankin Thursday.

WC will host Madison Central Thursday at 4 p.m.
