Too straight for a drunk’ to walk

Published 12:00 am Wednesday, March 7, 2001

Vicksburg High School junior Beletra Jefferson loses her balance while wearing a pair of fatal-vision day goggles as part of a course on the dangers of drinking and driving presented by the Mississippi Farm Bureau’s Safety Department. The set of fatal vision goggles impair Jefferson as much as if her blood-alcohol level were .08 to .10. Students participating Monday and Tuesday in the classes at the Vicksburg branch of Hinds Community College were given a variety of sobriety tests, and they operated a golf cart through a road course while wearing the goggles.
