JOSIE FLANAGAN BUFKIN

ANGUILLA Josie Flanagan Bufkin died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at her home in Anguilla. She was 91.

Born in Utica, Mrs. Bufkin retired as a teacher for Anguilla schools after 30 years of service. She was Sharkey County Superintendent of Education for two terms and head of the Adult Education Program. She was past president of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of Anguilla Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Purdy Flanagan and William Ernest Bufkin; her parents, Lawrence Farno and Mary Currie Green; a sister, Dorothy Green Gray; a brother, Harold Green; a son, Lawrence N. Flanagan; a grandson, Eric Flanagan; and two stepdaughters, Celeste Cook and Mattee Mashburn.

She is survived by a son, Robert P. Flanagan Jr.; four grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Anguilla Methodist Church with the Rev. James Milner officiating. Burial will follow at Golden Link Cemetery in Anguilla.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Pallbearers will be Trey Flanagan, Greg Flanagan, Phil Kline, Mike Greer, Treves Cooper and Leslie Mashburn.

Memorials may be made to the Anguilla Methodist Church, Route 1, Box 1, Anguilla, MS. 38721; or to the Lawrence and Eric Flanagan Scholarship Endowment Fund, YMCA, 821 Clay St., Vicksburg, MS 39180.

JOHN H. COX JR.

CHICAGO John H. Cox Jr., a former resident of Vicksburg, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Bernard Mitchell Hospital in Chicago. He was 29.

Mr. Cox was a 1990 graduate of DuSable High School in Chicago and was a member of the ROTC.

He was preceded in death by his father, John H. Cox Sr.

Survivors include two sons, Johnathan Jacolby Cox of Dallas and Dajon Monteece Cox of Chicago; his mother, Ruby Presley Parker of Chicago; his stepfather, Preston Banks Jr. of Chicago; his grandmother, Clara Jones of Vicksburg; his fiance, Dana Williams of Chicago; aunts; and uncles.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Melvin Bolden officiating. Burial will follow at Zollinger Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the funeral home.

KATIE MAE HALL HARRIS

Services for Katie Mae Hall Harris will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Traveler’s Baptist Church with the Rev. Alfred Lassiter officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service.

Mrs. Harris died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 61.

Mrs. Harris was born in Tallula, Miss., and was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was a member of Zion Traveler’s Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Hall Sr. and Mary Hall; and two brothers, Willie Hall Jr. and Marvin Hall.

She is survived by three daughters, Mildred Hall Williams, Barbara Harris and Cindy Harris Daniels, all of Vicksburg; seven sisters, Mary Alice Hall, Bertha Hall Anderson and Clara Elmore Reynolds, all of Vicksburg, Carlene Wilson, Mary Alice Hall, Michelle Daniels and Vivian Hall, all of Waynesboro; seven brothers, Nathaniel Hall, Joe Hall and Eugene Hall, all of Chicago, Johnnie Hall of Atlanta, James Wilson of Ohio, Willie Hall of Waynesboro and Contee Hall of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

JESSE NASH

Services for Jesse Nash will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Williams Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Nash died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 47.

Mr. Nash worked as a brick mason and retired from the Vicksburg Fire Department. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Wright Nash of Vicksburg; three daughters, Keisha Montgomery and Shauntay Scott, both of Dallas, and Lindsay Nash of Vicksburg; a son, Michael Scott of Vicksburg; a stepson, Felix Wright of Hollandale; his mother, Winnie Nash Shorter of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a sister, Millie Murray; his grandmother, Mary Taylor of Vicksburg; a grandson, Kristafer Watson of Vicksburg; and other relatives including members of the Nash, Williams, Lowe, Taylor, Smith, Galtney, Christian, Wright, Shorter, Johnson, Montgomery, Kennedy and Jones families.
