ELIZABETH IRWIN ADAMS

Elizabeth Irwin Adams died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in Detroit. She was 87.

A former resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Adams had lived in Detroit since 1962. She was a homemaker and member of Mayflower M.B. Church in Detroit.

She is survived by three sons, Earl Adams and Dan Adams, both of Detroit, and Eugene Adams of Jackson; two daughters, Clemma Lee Hurst of Detroit and Perrine Adams of Yazoo City; three sisters, Lillie B. Nailor and Nettie Gatson, both of Detroit, and Myrtle Bowman of Yazoo City; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at noon Friday at Mount Zion M.B. Church at Ballground. Burial will follow at National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. Friday until the service at the church.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

CLAUDIE JANE BANCROFT

Claudie Jane Bancroft died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 97.

Mrs. Bancroft, a homemaker, was born in Kemper County. She lived most of her life in Meridian and had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 20 years. She was a member of Bowmar Avenue Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Aubrey Bancroft; a son-in-law, John F. Waller; and a grandson, Davie F. Waller.

She is survived by a daughter, Clarice Waller of Vicksburg; two granddaughters, Denise Heldenbrand of Vicksburg and Deatra Bishop of Hattiesburg; six great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Paul Lee and Terry White officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Magnolia Cemetery in Meridian.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Jobe, John Bishop, Charlie Waller, Eric Meyer, Nason Heldenbrand, Robert Morrison, Jack Hearn and Jim Bishop.

DUDLEY L. KEEN SR.

Services for Dudley L. “Dud” Keen Sr. were at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Revs. James Twiner and Carl Barnes officiating. Burial was at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Keen died Monday, March 19, 2001, at his home. He was 86.

A lifelong resident of the Redwood community, Mr. Keen was the son of the late James Usher and Essie Elizabeth Roberts Keen. He was a 1932 graduate of Redwood High School. He was a corporal in the Army during World War II in the 103rd Division of the Battalion 410th Infantry. He was co-founder of the Peace in the Valley Hunting Club and owner and operator of Dogwood Saw Mill Co. He was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dudley L. Keen Jr.; three brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his wife, June Wilson Keen of Vicksburg; a daughter, Kathi Suzane Keen Statham of Redwood; three sons, Frank Wilson Keen of Satartia, Tony Karl Keen of Vicksburg and Steven P. “Rusty” Keen of Amory; two brothers, James A. “Jake” Keen of Redwood and Hilton Keen of Hot Springs, Ark.; a sister, Jewell “Betty” Hill of Meadville; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jim Keen, Keith Keen, David Keen, Sonny Keen, Ricky Hill, Barney Hill, Mike Wilson and Johnny Griffin.

JOSEPH WILLIAM SMOLLEN JR.

Joseph William Smollen Jr. died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 93.

Mr. Smollen was born in Brookhaven and graduated from Lake Charles High School. He worked as an inspector for Lake Charles Civil Engineering Department before working for Gulf States Utility Co. He then worked as an office engineer at Indiana Electric Corp. of Batesville and served as a field engineer in Beaumont and Henderson, Texas. He also worked for the Mississippi State Highway Commission and Tennessee Valley Power Administration before joining the Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, where he retired in 1966.

He was a former member of the Lions Club and worked with Scouts and Civitan baseball. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Engineers Club.

Mr. Smollen was a charter member and deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Mae Jordan Smollen.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph William Smollen III of New Orleans and Charles Jordan Smollen of Bossier City, La.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Green Acres Memorial Park with the Revs. Jimmy Newman, Geoffrey Joyner and Scott Reiber officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

GLADYS M. THOMPSON

Services for Gladys M. Thompson will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Church of Christ Holiness USA with Albert Stokes officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thompson died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 67.

Mrs. Thompson was a retired private duty nurse and a member of Jackson Street M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Moore Sr.; her mother, Norine Walker Moore; a son, Norris Lee Jones; and four brothers, Clyde Moore Sr., Richard Moore Jr., William “Bill” Moore and Tyree Moore.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Thompson of Vicksburg; a son, James D. Jones of Vicksburg; a daughter, Jacqueline Jones of Vicksburg; her mother, Norine Walker Moore of Vicksburg; her granddaughter and caregiver, Nicole McGloster of Vicksburg, and other relatives.

WILLIE M. PACE TRICHELL

Willie M. Pace Trichell died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at her home. She was 52.

Mrs. Trichell was a native of Louisville, Miss., and had lived in Vicksburg for the past 33 years. A homemaker, she was a member of First United Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Trichell Sr., and her father, Marion Carol Pace.

Survivors include two sons, Ernie L. Trichell Jr. and Jamie Trichell, both of Vicksburg; her mother and stepfather, Willie Mae and Leonard Black of Pioneer, La.; one brother, Prentiss Dale Pace of Monroe, La.; and one sister, Bertha Ann Patrick of Warden, La.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. D.W. Tipton, Melvin Regan, G.R. Travis and A.D. Spears officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Marshall, James Marshall, Frankie Stokes, Bobby Johnson, Johnny Perry and Brandy Pace.
