HR-happy Flashes rip Chiefs, 27-6

[03/28/01] St. Aloysius went to Pelahatchie for a division game on Tuesday and ended up playing home run derby.

The Flashes (10-1, 6-0 in division)) belted seven home runs including three by Aaron George had 22 hits and scored 12 runs in the seventh inning to beat division rival Pelahatchie, 27-6.

“In my career, I’ve never seen anything like it, home-run wise” said St. Al coach Joe Graves, who has coached two decades.

George hit home runs on three consecutive trips to the plate a grand slam and two solo shots and finished 4-for-6 with eight RBIs. He also had a double.

Charlie Amborn’s only hit was a grand slam, but he was responsible for bringing in six more runs on errors. He was also the winning pitcher, allowing five hits and striking out four in six innings.

Clay Simmons went 6-for-7 with a homer, five singles and three RBIs, Blake Warnock was 4-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs, and Walker Hengst was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer. Ryan Hearn and Victor Segers also had two hits apiece for St. Al, which has won seven in a row.
