FLORICE WASHINGTON-EILAND

CHICAGO Florice Washington-Eiland died Monday, March 5, 2001, in Chicago. She was 87.

Born in Jones, Miss., Mrs. Washington-Eiland was reared in Vicksburg. She was a member of Jackson Street Baptist Church and received her education at Magnolia School. She graduated from Tougaloo College. She served as principal of Lanes Hill High School in Vicksburg. She lived in Chicago since 1953, where she was a juvenile probation officer of Cook County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Clarence E. Buckner; a daughter, Florice “Jackie” Buckner Gay; and a brother, William Hendricks Williams.

She is survived by her husband, John Vergis Eiland of Chicago; three sons, Clarence Buckner Jr., James Buckner and Vergis Eiland Jr., all of Chicago; two daughters, Leola McArthur and Loretta Washington Miller, both of Chicago; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services were March 10 under the direction of A.A. Rayner & Sons Funeral Directors of Chicago.

CLARA TURNER GRAHAM

HERMANVILLE Services for Clara Turner Graham were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Christian Chapel in Port Gibson. Burial followed at Turner Cemetery in Hermanville.

Mrs. Graham died Monday, March 26, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 40.

Mrs. Graham was a former employee of Public Transit and a member of First Christian Church of Hermanville.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ira Turner Sr.

Survivors include her parents, Charlie Turner and MaeEulice Banks Turner of Hermanville; three sons, Gerosiznick Turner, Quientin Turner and Baroskee Turner Graham, all of Port Gibson; a daughter, Karrennica Turner of Port Gibson; seven brothers, Elbert Turner, Huron Turner, Robert Turner, Charlie Turner Jr. and Albert Turner, all of Hermanville, Carl Thompson of Chicago and Willie Turner of Vicksburg; two sisters, Estella Turner McKenzie of Vicksburg and Mildred Turner Hedrick of Pattison; three grandchildren; her fiance, Darrell Graham of Port Gibson; and other relatives and friends.

LEWIS L. JOHNSON

PORT GIBSON Lewis L. Johnson died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 59.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Booker T. Bates and Willie Gibson; and three brothers, George Bates Johnson, Samuel Johnson and Benjamin Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Johnson of Jackson; two sons, Lewis L. Johnson Jr. and Samuel T. Johnson, both of Jackson; a daughter, Janice Johnson-Knotts of Jackson; four sisters, Delois Murray and Solomon E. Crowder, both of Los Angeles, Samuel L. Goods and Julia McGloster, both of Port Gibson; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday at Old Come and See No. 2 M.B. Church in Port Gibson. Burial followed at Engleside Family Cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

MARIANNE ALLISON McLAUGHLIN

Services for Marianne Allison McLaughlin were at 1 p.m. Saturday at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Alfred Camp officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

Ms. McLaughlin died June 11, 1998, in Baton Rouge. She was 39.

Born in Berchtesgarten, Germany, she was adopted and brought to Vicksburg at 5 months. She lived in Vicksburg until 1979 and had been a resident of Baton Rouge for 19 years.

Mrs. McLaughlin graduated from St. Aloysius High School and was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. She had managed Louisiana Orthodontist Specialists for six years.

She was the daughter of the late Dr. James Wayne Allison Jr.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Charles Anthony Cefalu and Mary Giordano Cefalu; and her paternal grandparents, James Wayne Allison Sr. and Maude Comfort Ezelle.

Survivors include two sons, Trey McLaughlin of Tokyo and John Daniel McLaughlin of Monroe; her mother, Rose Cefalu Allison of Vicksburg; a brother, Jimmy Allison of Pensacola, Fla.; three sisters, Kathy Allison of Clinton, Susan Allison Solis of Fort Worth, Texas, and Cindy Allison Bell of Vicksburg; four nephews and a niece.

Pallbearers were Tim Allison, Kirk McLaughlin, Chuck Bell, Mark Porta, Travis Besselman and George Solis.

Honorary pallbearers were Assistant District Attorney Prem Burns, Allen Daughtry, Shane Evans, the staff of East Baton Rouge District Attorney’s Office, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana Orthodontist Specialists’ Office.

CARRIE LILLIAN RUSSELL WILLIAMS

NEWTON Carrie Lillian Russell Williams died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident. She was 76.

Born in Newton County, Mrs. Williams had lived in Clinton for the past several years. She was a homemaker and a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Clinton.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Cecil Russell and Bill Williams; and her parents, Willie and Ruby Wyatt Gibson.

She is survived by a son, Gibby Russell of Vicksburg; a sister, Becky Murray of Meridian; and four grandchildren, Dale Russell of Hattiesburg, Lauren Russell of Jackson, Hunter Russell of Vicksburg and Clancy Green of Silva, Mo.

Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday at Webb Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Ken Anderson and Dr. Danny Chisholm officiating. Burial followed at Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bobby Murray, Charles Horne, Billy Gibbon, Johnny George Wall, Scott White and Charles Gordan.

VERA WILLIAMS

CLARKSDALE Vera Williams died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale. She was 71.

Born in Yazoo City, Mrs. Williams was a former resident of Vicksburg. She was a member of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by three daughters, Imogene Reid of Columbia, La., Mitzi Miller of Granger, Texas, and Kay Hillhouse of Lyon, Miss.; a son, Elton Williams of Lyon; two brothers, Harold Hancock of Jackson and Phillip Hancock of Shreveport; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at National Funeral Home in Clarksdale with the Rev. Jeff Holland officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Clarksdale.
