MARY ANDERSON BOLLS

Mary Anderson Bolls died Monday, April 9, 2001, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 66.

Mrs. Bolls was a homemaker and a member of New Hope M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Katherine Wallace, and her father, Richard Anderson.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin Bolls of Vicksburg; three sons, Melvin Bolls Jr. and Marvin Bolls, both of Vicksburg, and Mark Bolls of Atlanta; and two daughters, Mary Katherine Fortier and Marva Bolls, both of Chicago; and a brother, Leander Collins.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Hope M.B. Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.

LELA MAE BOYD

TALLULA, Miss. Lela Mae Boyd died today, April 12, 2001, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. She was 85.

Born in Tickfaw, La., Mrs. Boyd lived in Rolling Fork for the past 52 years. She was a retired employee of the Delta Elastic Co. in Rolling Fork and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

She is survived by three sons, Bobby Boyd and Billy Boyd, both of Tallula, and John Boyd of Anguilla; five daughters, Christine Beliew, Sue Golden, Betty Bishop and Shirley Nichols, all of Rolling Fork, and Pat McPhail of Tallula; a sister, Bessie Peppers of Gonzales, La.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of God of Prophecy in Tallula with the Rev. Darrel Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Rolling Fork.

Pallbearers will be Lee Beliew, Gary Hayes Charles Boyd, David McPhail, T. Bill Boyd, Josh Boyd, Mike Vonomour and Sean Kirby.

Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Hatcher, John Kerr, Gene Fulton, James Franklin and Ed Husky.

RUSSELL H. BURKHARD

Russell H. Burkhard died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 77.

A native of Zanesville, Ohio, Mr. Burkhard had lived in Vicksburg for a number of years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Coast Guard and taking part in seven invasions in the Pacific Theater.

He had worked for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and Mosaic Tile before retiring. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius V. and Margaret Switzer Burkhard.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Mae Burkhard of Vicksburg; two sons, Ron Burkhard of Vicksburg and Russ Burkhard of Lorton, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. James O’Riordan officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home.

RODELL BUTLER SR.

PORT GIBSON Rodell Butler Sr. died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Claiborne County Hospital in Port Gibson. He was 97.

Mr. Butler was born in Vicksburg. He was a retired carpenter with Magnolia Homes. He was a member of Greater St. Mark Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Helen M. Butler and Martha Butler; a daughter, Rosie Lee Butler; two brothers, Harrison Butler and Randolph Butler; and a sister, Pearl Butler.

He is survived by a son, Rodell Butler Jr. of Port Gibson; three daughters, Helen M. Butler and Carolyn M. Butler, both of Long Island, N.Y., and Ruth D. Foster of Tallahassee, Fla.; five stepdaughters, Catherine Ford and Elizabeth Smith, both of Red Lick, Lauratta Smith and Brenda Harris, both of Fayette, and Rose Franklin of Port Gibson; two brothers, Harrison Butler of Pembleton, La., and Douglas Butler of New Orleans; four sisters, Elnora Williams and Edna Mae Butler, both of Columbus, Ohio, Annie Butler and Olivia Spann, both of New Orleans; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater St. Mark Baptist Church in Port Gibson. Burial will follow at Mercy Seat Cemetery in Tillman under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Albert Butler, Charles Butler, Barry Thompson, Curtis Wells, Michael Morris, Earnest Tarleton, James Wells and Michael Devalt.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Greater St. Mark Baptist Church.

ED HALL

Ed Hall died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 80.

Mr. Hall was born in Meridian and lived in Vicksburg since 1936. He was a graduate of Jett High School. He retired from the Corps of Engineers with more than 42 years of service. He was past chief of the Warren County Auxiliary Police and Civil Defense. He was a veteran of the Army, having served during World War II. He was a member of the VFW and Bovina Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Edward Hall.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Williams Hall of Vicksburg; two daughters, Candis Mae Harvey and Dollie Sue Harrison, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Lucille Noblin of Lafayette, La.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Chip Starnes officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Billy Glenn Downey, Edwin Harris, Frank Williams, Mike Coomes, Tommy Runnels, Red Dowdy and Wayne Patrick.

Honorary pallbearers will be the adult men’s Sunday school class of Bovina Baptist Church.
