[04/13/01] Even after wrapping up the season with a 2-1 loss at Florence, Warren Central coach Lucy Young has a positive attitude about the two-year-old fast-pitch program going into the offseason.

“I feel positive about our improvements,” Young said. “We have a young team with no seniors and only one junior …

“The future is bright for our fast-pitch program.”

Warren Central, which was 10-8 last year, finished up this season at 12-6.

Florence outhit Warren Central 7-2.

Haley Martin and Ed’Nita Prentiss got the only hits for WC.

The Lady Vikes trailed 2-0 going into the last inning when Martin singled to left field, scoring Katie Barnett and advancing to third on a bad throw with no outs.

But the Lady Vikes could not bring home the tying run.

“This year, we played close games against Madison Central and Clinton,” Young said of the playoff-bound division powers. “Our players came back stronger this year and we had great pitching all year.”
