HULDA CHASE

UTICA Services for Hulda “Sis” Chase will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Travelers M.B. Church in Utica. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service.

Mrs. Chase died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 73.

She was a custodial worker. She was a member of Zion Travelers M.B. Church where she was a member of the mother board.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Emma Smith McGriggs; three daughters, LaVerta Winters, LaQuitta Chase and Carolyn Ann Chase; a son, Dayton Fields Jr.; and two brothers, Lewis McGriggs and Dannie McGriggs.

Survivors include three sons, John Bell Chase of Utica, Leonard Chase Jr. of New Orleans and Sam Douglas Chase of Vicksburg; a daughter, LaJoyce James of Vicksburg; a brother, Samuel McGriggs of Utica; a sister, Emma McGriggs Carson of Utica; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and other relatives.

MOSE DOUGLAS

Mose Douglas died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 68.

Mr. Douglas was retired with the Corps of Engineers. He was a member of Travelers Rest M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Williams and Emerly Douglas Sr.; two brothers, Henry Douglas and James Douglas; and a sister, Easter Green.

He is survived by a son, Jesse James of Rodney; two brothers, William Douglas Jr of Vicksburg and Robert Douglas of Los Angeles; three sisters, Amanda Douglas Jackson of Vicksburg, Laura Washington of Park Forrest, Ill., and Lillie Rucker of Port Gibson; and other relatives, including Alex Washington.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

MARSHALL HARRIS SR.

Services for Marshall Harris Sr. will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Springhill M.B. Church with the Rev. Willie Jones officiating. Burial will follow at New Zion Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Harris died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. He was 54.

Mr. Harris was a retired truck driver with American Gas. He was a member of Shiloh M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Harris; his mother, Margaret Jones; and a sister, Willie Mae Jones.

Survivors include two sons, Marshall Harris Jr. of Vicksburg and Kevin Harris of Panola; four daughters, Shelia Gaskin Smith and LaShaunta Bright, both of Vicksburg, Margaret Harris of Chicago and Karren Harris of Panola; his stepmother, Hazel Harris of Vicksburg; a sister, Phyllis Smith of Vicksburg; six grandchildren and other relatives including Bernice Harris, Benard Smith and the Gaskin, Jones, Kennedy, Cox and Harris families, all of Vicksburg.

REV. M.K. NELSON

JACKSON The Rev. M.K. Nelson died Monday, April 16, 2001, at his home in Jackson. He was 66.

Dr. Nelson was born in Raymond. He became an ordained minister in 1959 and has served as pastor of Belmont M.B. Church in Durant, New Hope Baptist Church in Florence, New Liberty Baptist Church in Yazoo City, Belmont Baptist Church in Raymond, Friendship Baptist Church in Edwards, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Bolton and Morning Star Baptist Church in Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Elbert Nelson; his mother, Mollie Coleman; a brother, Andy Nelson; and a sister, Ora Bell Terry.

Survivors include his wife, Madeline Lofton Nelson of Jackson; four daughters, Carol Garrett, Cathy Russell and Nina Garrett, all of Jackson, and Nakita Nelson of Montgomery, Ala.; three brothers, Warren Nelson, the Rev. Jessie Nelson and Elbert Nelson III, all of Jackson; six grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Morning Star M.B. Church in Jackson. Burial will follow at Garden Memorial Park in Jackson under the direction of Lakeover Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
