ROOSEVELT D. HENRY

PORT GIBSON Roosevelt D. Henry died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at his home. He was 64.

Mr. Henry is survived by two daughters, Tanya Davis of Canton and Twyla Arnold of Lawrenceville, Ga.; three brothers, George Henry of Lorman, Hilbert Henry of Harvey, Ill., and John Henry of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Clara Clinton and Sarah Johnson, both of St. Louis; three grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive M.B. Church in the Westside community with the Rev. Elijah Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Carbondale Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.

MARY LOGUE NEWMAN

ST. JOSEPH, La. Mary Logue Newman died Wednesday, April 18, 2001. She was 71.

Mrs. Newman was a member of First United Methodist Church of St. Joseph.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Newman Sr.; a daughter, Mary Ann McLeod; and her father, Otto A. Logue Sr.

She is survived by a daughter, Eula N. Maples of St. Joseph; two sons, Robert Newman Jr. and James A. Newman, both of St. Joseph; her mother, Nan M. Black of Vicksburg; her stepfather, John Black Sr.; two brothers, Robert A. Logue and Otto A. Logue, both of Vicksburg; two sisters, Joyce Atkins and Patricia Barnes, both of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday, La., with the Revs. Bill Bearden and Butch Ferris officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Jones, Kenneth Jones, Joey Maples, Bobby Newman, Jeffery Newman and Keith Newman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Knox Jones and Walter Rosevalley.

BEOLA OUSLEY

ROLLING FORK Beola Ousley died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Sharkey-Issaquena Community Hospital in Rolling Fork. She was 76.

Mrs. Ousley was a resident of Rolling Fork.

She is survived by four sons, Armour Ousley Jr. of Kalamazoo, Mich., Willie Ousley of Rolling Fork, Larry Ousley of Vicksburg and James Ousley of Atlanta; four daughters, Luella Swanigan of Chicago and Mary Washington, Christine Ousley and Judy Ousley, all of Rolling Fork; and a sister, Cresy Harvey of Joliet, Ill.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Mount Ollie M.B. Church in Egremont with the Rev. Willie J. Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Danover Cemetery in Cary under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.

LEARNER MAE SHIRLEY

EDWARDS Learner Mae Shirley died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Central Mississippi Medical Center. She was 77.

Mrs. Shirley was an Edwards native. She was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, serving as an usher until her health failed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Shirley; and two sons, Leroy Allen and Lewis James Hunter.

Survivors include six daughters, Jessie Mae Mosley, Shirley Forest and Joyce Kelly, all of Edwards, Alva Nell Minor of Maywood, Ill., Helen Shirley of Los Angeles and Jessie Dulaney Green of Vicksburg; 24 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Moriah M.B. Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 8 p.m. Friday at Lakeover Funeral home in Jackson and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

JAMES TURNER

James “Pimp” Turner died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 31.

Mr. Turner was employed with Jessie Benard Construction and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerome Turner Sr.; a brother, Jerome Turner Jr.; and grandparents, Rosie Turner and Louis Gaskin Sr.

He is survived by two sons, Jamal J. Smith and Jarquez Smith, both of Vicksburg; his mother, Ruby Callahan of Vicksburg; three brothers, Joe Turner and William Callahan, both of Vicksburg, and Scott Callahan Jr. of Ruston, La.; four sisters, Gloria Mitchell, Cora Turner and Rita Callahan, all of Vicksburg, and Dorothy Turner of Muskegon, Mich.; his paternal grandfather, Henry Turner; and his maternal grandmother, Evangaline Barber.
