MOSE DOUGLAS

Services for Mose Douglas were at 11 a.m. Monday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Douglas died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 68.

Mr. Douglas was retired from the Corps of Engineers. He was a member of Travelers Rest M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emerly Douglas Sr.; two brothers, Henry Douglas and James Douglas; and a sister, Easter Green.

He is survived by a son, Jesse James of Rodney; two brothers, William Douglas Jr. of Vicksburg and Robert Douglas of Los Angeles; three sisters, Amanda Douglas Jackson of Vicksburg, Laura Washington of Park Forrest, Ill., and Lillie Rucker of Port Gibson; and other relatives, including Alex Washington.

BILLY JOE FRITH

Billy Joe Frith died Friday, April 20, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 72.

Mr. Frith was born in Mize, Miss., and lived in Madison Parish for 51 years. He was a farmer and a member of Willow Bayou Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Johnson Frith of Tallulah; two sons, Ronnie Frith and Donnie Frith, both of Tallulah; two daughters, Brenda Thames and Barbara Doles, both of Tallulah; three brothers, Cassie Frith of Pine Bluff, Ark., Mitchell Frith of Salem, Calif., and Leon Frith of Forest, La.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Tallulah with the Rev. Charles Gaston and the Rev. Larry Linson officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah.

Pallbearers were Al Horath, David Ford, Louis Grady, Robert Thames, Dewayne Frith and David Frith.

STEPHEN A. HUBBARD

Stephen A. Hubbard died Saturday, April 21, 2001, as a result of injuries from an automobile accident. He was 19.

Mr. Hubbard was born in Forest City, Ark., and was a resident of Utica most of his life. He attended Crystal Springs High School and was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Curtis Construction Co. of Utica.

He attended the Utica United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his father, Billy Hubbard of Florence; his mother, Donna Ross Hubbard of Prentiss; his step-father, E.C. Fortenberry of Prentiss; two brothers, Logan Hubbard and Shelby Hubbard, both of Prentiss; one sister, Meghann Hubbard of Prentiss; maternal grandparents, Mary Jane Dodson and Fred Ross, both of Utica; paternal grandparents, Sheby and Ruth Hubbard of Utica, and great-grandmothers, Jane Jewell Ross of Utica and Ruby Abney of Vicksburg.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday at Utica Baptist Church in Utica with the Rev. John Ed Snell officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg.

Pallbearers were Michael Strong, Jeffrey Strong, Ray Sebren, E.C. Fortenberry, Dusty Ross and Eric Beck.

LAVERNE NELSON

Laverne Nelson died Friday, April 20, 2001, at his residence in the Possum Hollow community. He was 73.

Mr. Nelson was born in Sterling, Colo., and had lived in Vicksburg since 1980. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had served as a photographer.

He was senior photographer for Stanford Research in Colorado and, after moving to Vicksburg, he had worked for Mississippi Hardware Co. He had served as commander of a VFW post in California and was a member of the VFW and National Rifle Association.

Mr. Nelson was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles H. and Ester Petre Nelson, and two sisters, Lois L. Neumann and Doris Dudley.

He is survived by a son, Robert D. Anderson Sr., of Vicksburg; two brothers, Paul W. Nelson of San Jose, Calif., and Richard D. Nelson of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Norma Oglay and Betty Ann Herman of Sterling; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Chapel with Bishop Cary Talbot officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert Anderson Jr., James Wayne Hughes, Josh Davidson, Frederick A. Hughes Jr., Pete Weathersby and Allen Hughes.

JAMES OLIVER “JIMMY” THOMPSON JR.

James Oliver “Jimmy” Thompson Jr. died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the home of his son in Brandon. He was 52.

Mr. Thompson was a native of Vicksburg and lived in Dallas and Brandon. He was a 1966 graduate of H.V. Cooper High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.

Mr. Thompson was in car sales for many years as a finance manager with Tom Wimberly in Jackson and Lamar Loe Motor Co. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, James O. Thompson Sr.; a sister, Rose Marie Thompson, and grandparents, Clarence and Ovye Thompson and E.Q. and Minnie Smith.

He is survived by two sons, James Oliver Thompson III of Brandon and Bryan Edward Thompson of Raymond; his mother, Mary Lois Thompson of Vicksburg; a sister, Sandi Thompson Grant of Vicksburg; two grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Howard Smith, former pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ben Grant, Gene Abbott, George Joy, Mican Dillon, Wendell Moore and David Haynes.
