VERNER ALLEN

A Mass of the Resurrection for Verner Lee “Shorty” Allen will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Boykins officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Rosary will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Robbins Funeral Home.

Mr. Allen died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 77.

Mr. Allen was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was a veteran of World War II and retired as a store clerk and service station attendant. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marshall, and three sisters, Ann Meeks, Gytonne Griffin and Melba L. Marshall.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jackson Allen of Vicksburg; five sisters, Argentina Havard of Vicksburg and Jean-E Marshall, Alice Singleton, Marianna McKinney and Maggie Davis, all of Los Angeles; a brother-in-law, Harrison Havard Sr. of Vicksburg; friends and other relatives, including Melba Havard and Beulah Cason, both of Los Angeles, and Harrison Havard Jr. and Mattye Havard, both of Vicksburg.

DOROTHY LEE CODY

Services for Dorothy Lee Cody were Monday at Lakewood Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Cody died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 79.

She was a longtime resident of Raymond before moving to Vicksburg. She was a retired production worker and a member of Beaulah Memorial Baptist Church in Brownsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara Belle Hardy Goode and William Lee Goode; her first husband, Charles Emmett Salley Jr.; her second husband, Charlie Luvell Cody; a sister, Clara Belle Beard; and three brothers, William Albert, R.L. Goode and Howard Goode.

She is survived by a daughter, Frances Payne of Vicksburg; two sisters, Maudre Collins of Baton Rouge and Annie Dawson of Bolton; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and other relatives.

ETHEL JACKSON

CHICAGO Ethel Jackson died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Chicago. She was 87.

Mrs. Jackson was born in Jefferson County. She was retired from Pie-O-My Foods in Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Redmond and Rosie Green; nine brothers; and eight sisters.

Survivors include two sisters, Carrie Jenkins of Cannonsburg, Miss., and Cordelia Johnson of Chicago; four sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Stampley, Miss., with the Rev. Percy Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at Rollins Chapel in Fayette.
