JOE R. BENNETT

Services for Joe R. “Pete” Bennett will be at 1 p.m. today at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with Cary Talbot of the Church of the Latter-Day Saints officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Bennett died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at his home. He was 69.

A native of Winona, Mr. Bennett was a longtime resident of Vicksburg. He was a corporal in the Army and retired as owner and operator of Bennett Trucking.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Columbus Calloway and Annie Harris Bennett; four brothers; and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Bennett of Vicksburg; two daughters, Darlene Winningham of Vicksburg and Tina Winn of Graceville, Fla.; a brother, James Bennett of Winona; four grandchildren, Stacy Browning, Charlie Miles, Bobby Joe Brown and Ricky Miles; three stepgrandchildren, Michael Winningham, Bradley Winningham and Kristi Nevels; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ellis Johnson, Plezy Hasty, Allen Hughes, John Hendon, Rufus Hendon and Charles Hendon.

Honorary pallbearer will be Bud Thomas.

FRED CLARK JR.

CARY Fred Clark Jr. died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at his home in Cary. He was 60.

Mr. Clark is survived by three sons, Gary Clark of Yazoo City, Fredrick Clark of Holly Bluff and Kevis Flowers of Greenville; and two daughters, Ollie M. Willis of Cary and Jean Armstrong of Rolling Fork.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mount Zion M.B. Church in Cary. Burial will follow at Mayfield Cemetery in Cary under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.

LENORA B. GRAVES

BENTONIA Lenora B. Graves died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, in Pasadena, Texas. She was 81.

A resident of Bentonia, Mrs. Graves was a member of Bentonia Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jady D. Graves; her parents and three brothers.

She is survived by two sons, Mark Graves of Houston, Texas, and Ira Joseph Graves of Vicksburg; a brother, Robert Burton of Jackson; two sisters, Ester Lewis of Pearland, Texas, and Addie Simmons of Bentonia; four grandchildren and other relatives, including Janelle Graves of Houston and Susan Graves of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Strickland-King Funeral Home in Yazoo City with the Rev. James Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home.

GEORGE R. HALL JR.

George R. Hall Jr. died Wednesday, May 4, 2001, at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. He was 41.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Hall had lived in Milton, Fla., for the past two months. He worked in construction as a driver. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by a daughter, Jean Marie Hall of Clinton; his mother, Bettye Antoine of Vicksburg; his father, George R. Hall Sr. of Vicksburg; and three sisters, Deborah Forrestal of Dallas, Janet Fernandez of Milton and Paulette Hodges of Pensacola, Fla.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Doyle Lee, Scott Thornton, Paul Rachal, Dr. Greg Carr, Jason Massey and Chris Massey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Rowland, Robert Hall, James Hall, Dan Tipton and Charlie Hudson.

Memorials may be made to the Child Abuse Prevention Center, Children’s Shelter or a favorite charity.

SAKEITA ZANDELEA JONES-LANE

Sakeita Zandelea Jones-Lane died Saturday, April 28, 2001, as the result of injuries sustained in a bicycle accident. She was 7.

A native of Vicksburg, Sakeita was a second-grade student at Sherman Avenue Elementary School. She had also lived in Edwards and Jackson. She attended Trueway Holiness Church in Bolton.

She is survived by her mother, Melissa Jones-Lane of Vicksburg; her father, Ronald Lane of Vicksburg; and three sisters, Savannah R. Jones, Sarita J. Jones and Santana L. Ross, all of Vicksburg; her grandparents, Jerry and Ernestine Williams and James and Mary Davis, all of Edwards, and Veronica Walker of Vicksburg; her great-grandparents, Savannah Holmes and Edna Lane of Vicksburg, O’Neil Williams and Willie and Loretta Johnson, all of Edwards.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trueway Holiness Church in Bolton. Burial will follow at Bethlehem M.B. Church Cemetery in Vicksburg under the direction of Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home of Jackson.

HETTIE JOHNSON POPWELL

TALLULAH Hettie Johnson Popwell died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Summit Hospital in West Monroe. She was 90.

Born in Mize, Mrs. Popwell had lived in Tallulah most of her life. She was a charter member of Parkview Baptist Church and a retired saleswoman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Popwell.

She is survived by a sister, Mary E. Pruitt of Vicksburg; a niece, Cheryl Ann Reed of Vicksburg; three nephews, Billy T. Neighbors of Selma, Ala., Jimmy Tradewell of Jacksonville, Ark., and Donnie Byrd of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Silver Cross Cemetery with the Rev. Cletus Moak officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7:30 tonight at the funeral home in Tallulah.
