BETTY HARRINGTON AUSTIN

Betty Harrington Austin died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 64.

Mrs. Harrington was born in Clarksdale and had lived in Greenville for more than 40 years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Greenville. She was also a retired registered nurse who worked at the Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville for more than 20 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Katy Austin of Greenwood, Miss., and Beth Magee of Vicksburg; two sons, Dr. Joe Austin of Vicksburg, and Dr. Greg Austin of Ridgeland; four sisters, Evelyn Mullins, Frances Hanks, Jessie Mae Wells, all of Clarksdale, and Catherine Graziosi of Greenville; one brother, Bill Harrington of Mulvane, Kan.; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Greenville with Rev. Richard Somers officiating. Burial will follow in Coahoma County Memorial Gardens in Clarksdale.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the Mortimer Funeral Home in Greenville and at 2 p.m. at the graveside Monday.

WALTER S. DAVIS

Walter S. Davis died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at his residence in Carthage, Tenn. He was 93.

Mr. Davis was a native of Vicksburg before moving to Carthage in 1952.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Davis; and a daughter, Carolyn Peabody.

He is survived by three grandchildren, Jay Peabody of Rindge, N.H., Brandi Taylor of Yarmouth, Maine, and Candace Allain of Brush Creek, Tenn.; and two nephews, Gerald Davis and Mike Davis, both of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 3 today at Smith Memorial Gardens in Carthage.

LULA HAYES WILLIAMS

Lula Hayes Williams died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at the Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 89.

Mrs. Williams was a retired educator in the Vicksburg-Warren County School District and a member of King Solomon M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Ruth Bailey Hayes; three brothers, Ernest Hayes, Frank Hayes, and Wilbert Hayes Sr.; and four sisters, Alberta Regan, Arvel Flaggs, Margaret Tillman and Alma Gardner.

Mrs. Williams is survived by a brother, Jessie Hayes of Vicksburg; and a sister, Eva Milton of Rolla, Mo.; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
