KATE BRUNINI

Kate Hardy Brunini, the widow of longtime Vicksburg attorney Alex J. Brunini, died Friday, May 18, 2001, at Heritage House Retirement Center. She was 93.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Brunini was remembered by family friends as an elegant lady once known as the queen of Glenwood Circle, the neighborhood where she and her family lived.

“Kate Brunini was just a remarkable person,” said Vicksburg attorney Bill Shappley, who worked with Alex Brunini’s law firm, Brunini, Everett, Grantham and Quin.

Mrs. Brunini was a former volunteer with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, a member of numerous civic and bridge clubs and a former president of the Ladies Golf Club Association. She was a communicant of St. Paul Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society.

“I was genuinely fond of Kate,” said Sara Wilkerson, whose family has been friends with the Bruninis for years.

Wilkerson recalled that Mrs. Brunini’s brother-in-law, the Rev. Joseph Brunini, who rose to bishop of the Natchez-Jackson Diocese of Mississippi, performed her marriage to Robert Wilkerson about 40 years ago.

“Everybody was her friend,” said Robert Wilkerson.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Brunini was preceded in death by her parents, Davage and Kate Kernaghan Hardy, and a sister, Elizabeth Hardy Moore.

Mrs. Brunini is survived by a daughter, Becky B. Rouse of Vicksburg; three grandchildren, Katie C. Ross, Eric J. Ashley and Chelsey A. Ashley, all of Vicksburg; a great-grandson, Dalton Ross of Vicksburg; two nephews and two nieces.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas McGing, pastor of St. Paul Catholic Church, officiating.

LINDA L. THOMPSON

Linda L. Thompson died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at Mesquite Medical Center in Mesquite, Texas. She was 57.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Indianola and worked as a manager for several convenience stores in Vicksburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton J. Thompson and parents, James R. and Clara Havis Smith.

She attended the Living Water Christian Fellowship Church.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Kathy Thompson of Redwood; a daughter, Cynthia Thompson of Mesquite, Texas; two grandchildren, Ashley Baker and Christopher Baker, both of Redwood; a brother, Ernest N. Smith of Greenville; and nieces and nephews.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Doyle Moulder officiating. Burial was at 2 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Greenville.
