CHARLIE BROOKS

MEADVILLE Charlie Brooks died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Franklin County Hospital in Meadville. He was 59.

Mr. Brooks was a self-employed logger and member of Mount Olive M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Harris Middleton, and his stepfather, Woodrow Middleton.

He is survived by Lida Booker of Roxie; his father, John Brooks of New Orleans; a son, Glen McNeil of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Adal Smith of Fayette; four brothers, Felton Middleton of Natchez, Lovie Middleton of Fayette, A.B. Middleton of Red Lick and America “Chuck” Middleton of Port Gibson; six sisters, Myra Savoy, Evelyn Johnson, Kathy Burkes and Althea Demas, all of New Orleans, Wilma Hall of Port Gibson and Carol Brown of Baton Rouge; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive M.B. Church in Kirby with the Rev. Edward Bolin officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Friday at Rollins Funeral Home in Fayette.

HARRY J. DANIELS

Services for Harry J. Daniels will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service.

Mr. Daniels died Monday, June 4, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 58.

Mr. Daniels was retired from the U.S. Army. He was a 1960 graduate of Rosa A. Temple High School. He was a 33rd-degree Mason and a member of the Paragon Lodge No. 7, P.H.A., United Supreme Council A.S.S.R., Vicksburg Consistory No. 110, Rose of Sharon O.E.S. and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Alberta Daniels; a sister, Pinkye Daniels Ellis; and a niece, Andrea Davis Byrd.

Survivors include two daughters, Charlene Burns of Fort Bliss, Texas, and Joyce Ann Naeemak of Indianapolis, Ind.; a son, J.J. Jackson of Los Angeles; his sister, Irma Davis of Vicksburg; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and other relatives, including Gloria Alfrieda Ellis of New York, N.Y., and Reno Vincent Davis of Vicksburg.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of the arrangements.

WILLIE FONG

Services for Willie Fong will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip Aguh officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Fong died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 48.

A native of Canton, China, He was the son of the late Wai Kwong. He came to the United States in 1977 and since had lived in Vicksburg. He and his brother established Sun Koon restaurant.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Fong of Vicksburg; a daughter, Helen Fong of Vicksburg; a son, Raymond Fong of Vicksburg; his mother, Woon Ngor Lee Fong of Vicksburg; his brother, See Fong of Vicksburg; and two sisters, Elaine Jong of Vicksburg and Tenny Lee of Hong Kong.

Pallbearers will be Walter Seid, Carson Sit, Wallace Seid, Buddy Yee, Bill Hays and Ken Chung.

MAYO HOOVER JR.

Services for Mayo Hoover Jr. will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Brumfield, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Yokena Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Hoover died Wednesday June 6, 2001, at his home. He was 59.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, he had worked for Marathon-LeTourneau Co. as a heavy-equipment operator for more than 35 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mayo Hoover Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Gracie J. Hoover of Vicksburg; two sisters, Betty Payne of Orlando, Fla., and Neda Gretzinger of Vicksburg; two brothers, Tim Hoover and Harold Hoover, both of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be William Gretzinger, Donald Ball, Wesley Gretzinger, Danny Hearn, Ryan Hoover and Don Jones.

MINNIE LUCAS

HERMANVILLE Minnie Lucas died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Adams County Nursing Home. She was 94.

Mrs. Lucas was a member of Freeman Hall M.B. Church where she was on the mother board. She was also a member of Silver Star No. 34 Order of Eastern Star, Heroine of Jericho No. 8, Baptist Aid and Benevolent Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Virginia Jackson; four brothers, Roosevelt Jackson, Tom Jackson, Anthony Jackson and William Jackson; five sisters, Josie P. Jackson, Willie Walker, Virginia Terrell, Marie Camphor and Lucy Cox; and two grandchildren, Clyde Vance and Calvin White.

Survivors include a son, Isiah Lucas of Detroit; four daughters, Clara White of Hermanville, Lucille Vance of Detroit and Willie Parker and Tamara Lucas, both of Port Gibson; her brother, James W. Jackson Sr. of Hermanville; her sister, Rosie Seed of Ann Arbor, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services were at 2 p.m. Friday at Freeman Hall M.B. Church in Hermanville. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
