HERBERT CLARK

CARY Herbert Clark died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. He was 65.

Born in Mayersville, Mr. Clark had lived in Cary for 65 years. He owned and operated South Delta Parts in Rolling Fork. He was a veteran of the Air Force having served during the Korean War. He was a member of Goodman Memorial Methodist Church in Cary.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie W. Clark of Cary; two sons, Herbert “Bert” Clark II of Rolling Fork and John Eric Clark of Ridgeland; his brother, Henry David Clark of Cary; and a grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Goodman Memorial Methodist Church in Cary with the Revs. Chuck Hallford and Howard Herring officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Rolling Fork.

Pallbearers will be Bill Richardson, Donald Harris, Roy Gerrard, Pat Patterson, Horace Newman, Charlie Darden and Jerry Stevens.

Honorary pallbearers will be Laurence Carter, Lin Shelby, Bob Bryant, Dr. Dan Jackson, Burt Darden and James Miller.

JEAN E. DAWSON

Jean E. Dawson died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at her home. She was 71.

Mrs. Dawson was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was the daughter of the late Sylvanus J. and Annie Lee Cody Ratliff. She was a retired civilian federal employee with service to the Mississippi Valley Division of the Army Corps of Engineers, the Mississippi River Commission and the 412th Engineer Command. She performed with the Vicksburg Little Theatre Guild in “Sleeping Beauty” and “Gold in the Hills.” She was a member of the professional secretary’s association and Woodlawn Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Dawson; her brother, Van Ratliff Jr.; and her sister, Mary Anne Ratliff.

Survivors include three daughters, Eugenia E. Hopkins and Kalar Hopkins Walters, both of Vicksburg, and Diana Dawson Plattner of Athens, Ga.; her son, John O. Hopkins of Woodward, Okla.; her sister, Caroline Ratliff Mendrop of Vicksburg; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Creswell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James R. Jones, Andrew Miller, Lucas G. Hopkins, Othel W. Mendrop, Andrew Plattner and Charles E. Mendrop.

CHRISTINE MILNER

Christine Milner died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 57.

Mrs. Milner was born in Hazlehurst and had lived in Vicksburg for the past six years. She was an employee of Busby Trucking Lines and a member of Levelwood Methodist Church in Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her son, Presley Clarke Jr.

She is survived by a son, Michael Clarke of New Albany; four daughters, Rhonda Baughman of Pearl, Chrissie Clark of McComb, Penny Shuler of Pearl and Chastidy Parker of Vicksburg; her brother, the Rev. James D. Milner of Anguilla; three sisters, Dorothy Deweese of Topeka, Kan., Lois Clarke of Byram and Pam Franklin of Madison; and 14 grandchildren.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sarepta Methodist Church in Pattison with the Rev. Cris Drinnon officiating. Burial will follow at Sarepta Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the service Wednesday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Frank Smith, Wendell Haynes, Ryan Thompson, Kenny Parker, Timothy Estelle and Michael Clarke.

DAVID F. OSBURN

MORTON David F. Osburn died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Scott Regional Hospital. He was 80.

Mr. Osburn was a native of Primm, Ark., and had lived in Scott County for 35 years. He was a member of Morton Jesus Name Church.

He was preceded in death by two sons, David Osburn and Ronnie Osburn; and a stepson, Terry Jack Shoemaker.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Osburn of Morton; two daughters, Barbara Minor of Michigan and Shelia Osburn King of Leesburg; five sons, Danny Osburn, Jimmy Osburn and George Osburn, all of Michigan, Jim Osburn of Brook, Ga., and Rob Disentel of Nevada; two stepdaughters, Merry Thompson of Eagle Lake and Sherry Roby of Brandon; two stepsons, Jerry Wiley Shoemaker of Leesburg and Michael Shoemaker of D’Lo; 25 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services were June 9 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton with the Revs. John Goodhue and Robert Gatewood officiating. Burial was at Leesburg Cemetery in Morton.

Pallbearers were Ginger L. Gurley, Charlie Jones, Andy Measells, Jeremy Shoemaker, Mark Harrell, Merry Thompson, Gut Waggoner and Colin Measells.
