LUCILLE W. BRUMFIELD
Services for Lucille W. Brumfield will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill M.B. Church with the Rev. Joseph Brisco officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Brumfield died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 89.
Mrs. Brumfield was a homemaker. She was a member of Pleasant Hill M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Brumfield; her parents, Austin and Patsy Whitaker; four brothers, Albert Whitaker, James Whitaker, George Whitaker and Leon Whitaker; and three sisters, Teresa Nash, Rosie Stewart and Mary Helen Lee.
She is survived by one son, Elijah Brumfield of Vicksburg; two sisters, Edna Hatcher of Vicksburg and Susie Mae Tolliver of Aurora, Ill.; a godson, Peter Flowers of Saginaw, Mich.; one granddaughter, five great-grandchildren and other relatives, including Lucille Ross, Mary Gleese and Janice Benard, all of Vicksburg.
KIRK CRAIG
Services for Kirk Craig will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Triumph Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Nicks officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.
Mr. Craig died Saturday, June 23, 2001. He was 27.
He was a member of Triumph Baptist Church and a former employee of U.S. Rubber.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Craig; and his godmother, Mary Owens
He is survived by his wife, Regina Bland Craig; two sons, Kirk Jerome Craig Jr. and Tony Bland, both of Vicksburg; four daughters, Deakquwanita Bland, Keisha Bland, Teonica Bland and Regene Kelly, all of Vicksburg; his mother, Lena Craig of Vicksburg; five brothers, Samuel Craig Jr., Robert Craig, Keith Craig, Lamont Smith and Samuel Craig III, all of Vicksburg; four sisters, Teffee Craig, Carolyn Lumpkin, Mona Lisa Mubley and Candace Smith, all of Vicksburg; his maternal grandmother, Bernice White of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including members of the White, Brown and Patterson families.
SUMATRA DARLENE SIMPSON
Services for Sumatra Darlene Simpson will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Vicksburg Auditorium with the Rev. Johnny Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Clover Valley Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and from noon until the service Saturday at the Vicksburg Municipal Auditorium.
Miss Simpson died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 38.
Born in Vicksburg, Miss Simpson lived in Los Angeles for a number of years. She was a graduate of Freemont High School in Los Angeles.
She was employed at the Isle of Capri Casino and was a member of Clover Valley M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Simpson; a daughter, LaKeisha Scott; a brother, Benard Simpson; her paternal grandmother, Millie Simpson; and her maternal grandparents, Emma and Ambus Wallace.
Survivors include a son, Evrette Scott Jr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Latrice Simpson and Evette Keonna Scott, both of Vicksburg; her father, Bennie George Simpson of Chicago; aunts; uncles; and other relatives including Anthony Woodland of Vicksburg.
POOLER G. THIGPEN
Pooler G. Thigpen died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 61.
A native of Tallulah, Mr. Thigpen had lived in Vicksburg since 1972. He had worked as a welder for R.G. LeTourneau and Blansett’s Ornamental Iron Works, retiring in 1989. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Cole Thigpen of Vicksburg; a son, Michael Thigpen of Monroe, La.; a daughter, Kelly Thomas of West Monroe, La.; his mother, Bernice Phillips of Tallulah; two stepchildren, David Hintson and Bobbie Lou Rogers, both of Redwood; two sisters, Delia Trichell of Tallulah and Ann Wilhite of Haughton, La.; three brothers, William Thigpen of Redwood; Arthur Thigpen of Tallulah and Dexter Phillips of Alexandria, La.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Cletus Moar officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Karsten Simrall, Gary Butler, Hosie Thomas, Johnny Griffin, Jeff Skipper, Don Hollowell and Doyle Rogers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Blansett, Sonny Keen, Raymond Baker, Tony Haggard, Charles Thomas, R.G. Hollowell, Newell Simrall, Donald Kelley, Mike Noble, Eddie Hoover and Dr. Paul Pierce.
