PEARLIE JONES

Pearlie Jones died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at her home. She was 55.

Mrs. Jones was a member of First Baptist Church. She served as a teacher with the Vicksburg Warren School District and Illinois Public Schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Jones Sr.; her father, Henry Brown Sr.; a brother, John Brown; and her grandparents, Jack and Mary Lou Brown.

Survivors include four sons, Calvin Henry Jones and Steven Lamont Jones, both of Vicksburg, and Jimmie Jones Jr. and Timothy Dewayne Jones Sr., both of Chicago; a daughter, Lisa Jones Mabry of Vicksburg; a stepson, Jimmie Lee Jones of Charleston, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Jeanette Mullins of Grenada and Jacqueline Burson of Chicago; her mother, Hester Brown of Vicksburg; five brothers, Henry Brown Jr. of Chicago, Charlie Brown of Los Angeles, Michael Brown of Jackson and Floyd Brown and Lee Dudley Brown, both of Vicksburg; five sisters, Elnora Brown, Linda Kay Brown and Janice Brown, all of Vicksburg, Andrea Brown of Jackson and Sharolyn Faye Brown of California; her grandfather, Henderson Williams Sr. of Vicksburg; 11 grandchildren; other relatives and friends including Rita Ellis and Annie B. Chiles, both of Vicksburg, Perry Mitchell of St. Paul, Minn., and members of the Williams, Anderson and Jones families.

RUTH WEAVER MORGAN

Ruth Weaver Morgan died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Heritage House Nursing Home. She was 83.

Mrs. Morgan was a native of Eudora, Ark., and had lived in Vicksburg most of her life. She worked at several hospitals, including the Vicksburg Infirmary and Kuhn Memorial, and as a private nurse for a number of years.

She was a member of the Vicksburg Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond C. and Virginia J. Dublin Weaver; one sister; and her husbands, Edwin T. Larr Sr. and Walter Howard Morgan.

Survivors include a son, Edwin T. Larr Jr. of Fayetteville, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Mona Cathey of Vicksburg; three brothers, Roy S. Flanagan of Arlington, Tenn., Clarence D. Flanagan of Paradise, Calif., and Willie M. Flanagan of Flowery Branch, Ga.; one sister, June E. Mills of Charleston, S.C.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with Billy Mitchell officiating. Burial followed at Cedar hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jim Ferguson, Rhea Fuller, Jeff Pickell, Randy Pagan, Charles Laubach and Dr. John Evans.

Honorary pallbearers were ladies of the Vicksburg Seventh Day Adventist Church, Pauline Wells, Emma Jean McKinsey, Helen Grace Johnson and Josie Wilson.

DOROTHY STEWART SLAUGHTER

Dorothy Stewart Slaughter died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 56.

Mrs. Slaughter was a member of Gospel Temple M.B. Church. She was a food service manager for Jubilee and a cosmetologist.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Stewart; and her grandmother, Lillian Hall.

She is survived by her husband, Bennie Slaughter of Vicksburg; three daughters, Carolyn Wells, Valeria Newton and Yolanda Bailey, all of Huntsville, Ala.; two sons, Robert Robertson and Vincent Robertson, both of Vicksburg; her mother, Daisey Mae Smith of Vicksburg; six sisters, Lillian Limbrick of Marlboro, Md., Linda Burnside of Hollandale, Patrick Cole and Wendy Scott, both of Vicksburg, Mamie Smith and Diane Harvey, both of Las Vegas; two brothers, Richard Scott and Jordan Smith Jr., both of Vicksburg; 13 grandchildren, a great-grandchild and other relatives.
