WC Seniors rally again, beat Clinton in eighth

[07/12/01] Brian Pettway and Chris Hite delivered in the clutch again in another come-from-behind win for the Warren Central Seniors.
Hite went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs and Pettway went 2-for-4 with a homer and was dominating on the mound in relief as WC beat AAU Seniors tournament host Clinton in extra innings, 7-5.
WC trailed 2-0 in the fifth inning before a three-run outburst, then tacked on two more in the seventh to take a 5-2 lead.
The home team tied it with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.
In the eighth, Tyler DeRossette and Jeff Mitchell singled, then Darryl Harper drove in the go-ahead run with a pinch-hit single and Hite followed with an RBI double.
Pettway, who relieved starter Steven McDevitt in the seventh, kept Clinton scoreless in the eighth to get the win. He struck out three, walked none and had one hit in 12/3 innings.
McDevitt scatterd six hits in 61/3, fanning five and walking two.
Mitchell went 2-for-4 and John Morgan Mims drew five walks.
Hite drove in the tying run and Pettway had the game-winner with two outs in the bottom of the seventh in Monday’s 3-2 win over Terry.
WC faces Magee at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Clinton. With a win, they will play in Saturday’s championship.
