JOHNNY D. ROSS SR.

Johnny D. Ross Sr. died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at the Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 57.

Mr. Ross was preceded in death by his parents, Johnna and Lula Evans Ross.

He is survived by a son, Johnny Ross Jr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Patricia Ross and Diana Ross, both of Vicksburg; one brother, L.V. Ross of Dayton, Ohio; four sisters, Frankie Foster, Ada Johnson, Sallie Bailey and Lizzie Mae Rader, all of Vicksburg; grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives including Freddie Rader and Johnny Bailey, both of Vicksburg.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

PAUL EVANS SPEAKE

Paul Evans Speake died Friday, July 13, 2001, at the Baxter County Medical Center in Mountain Home, Ark. He was 73.

Mr. Speake was born in Hinds County. He retired from the Waterways Experiment Station in 1978 after 33 years of service. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict and was the recipient of two purple hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Louis and Mattie Speake; two brothers, William Speake and Clark Speake.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Brantley Speake; his daughters, Debra Alexander of Mountain View, Ark., and Rita Grice of Forest; his grandchildren, Jessica Haskins of Monroe, La., David Haskins of Vicksburg, Jennifer Grice of Forest and Amity Grice of Columbus; and a great-grandchild, Taylor Barton of Columbus.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Roller Crouch Funeral Home Chapel in Mountain View, Ark., with the Revs. Gerald Nash and Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Flatwoods Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Don Norman, Kenneth Swanson, Eddie Harp, Joe Wyatt, Harper Sanders and Karl Rushing.
