MARTIN CHAMBERS

BOGUE CHITTO Martin Chambers died Saturday, July 14, 2001, in Ridgeland. He was 92.

Mr. Chambers was a resident of Bogue Chitto.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Chambers; a daughter, Joyce Darden; a brother, Carl Chambers; and two sisters, Jeanette Wyatt and Maggie Braxton.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Chambers of Bogue Chitto; a son, Bennie Chambers of St. Louis, Mo.; three daughters, Ruth Moore of Bolton, Claudia Chambers of Chicago and Lillie Ruth Chambers of New Orleans; four brothers, George Chambers of Boston, Wallace Chambers of Akron, Ohio, Louis Chambers of New York and Oneal Chambers of Port Gibson; three sisters, Brybena Wyatt of Port Gibson, Geneva Taylor of Tougaloo and Leona Washington of Jackson; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; six stepchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Russell H. Myers officiating, assisted by the Rev. Leon Nelson. Burial followed at McCay Cemetery in Russum under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson.

RUTH McNEIL

PORT GIBSON Ruth McNeil died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, N.C. She was 58.

Formerly of Port Gibson, Mrs. McNeil had lived in Fayetteville for 19 years. She owned and operated Ruth Compassionate Home Health Agency and served as co-pastor of Liberty Temple Holiness Church.

She is survived by her husband, William McNeil of Fayetteville; a son, Eric McNeil of Fayetteville; two daughters, Shalinda Jones of Fayetteville and Sharon McNeil of Cary, N.C.; her mother and stepfather, Annie and Walter Thompson of Port Gibson; three brothers, Freddie Davis, Charles Trevillion and Owen Thompson, all of Boston; five sisters, Gustina Jackson, Claudine Leatherberry, Presandra Butler and Norma Thompson-Lewis, all of Port Gibson, and Tonnie Miller of Boston; four grandchildren; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ashland M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. James Dorsey officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson.

JOHNNY D. ROSS SR.

Services for Johnny D. Ross Sr. were at 2 p.m. Sunday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Sammy Brown officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Ross died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 57.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Paula Ross and Pamela Ross; a son, Ronald “Big Rob” Ross; and his parents, Jonas and Lula Evans Ross.

He is survived by a son, Johnny Ross Jr. of Vicksburg; three daughters, Patricia Ross, Diana Ross and Stephanie P. Hester, all of Vicksburg; one brother, L.V. Ross of Dayton, Ohio; four sisters, Frankie Foster, Ada Johnson, Sallie Bailey and Lizzie Mae Rader, all of Vicksburg; grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives including Freddie Rader and Johnny Bailey, both of Vicksburg.

AGNES M. SCANLON

BOLTON Agnes M. Scanlon died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 65.

A lifelong resident of Bolton, Mrs. Scanlon was associated with the Family Grocery Store in Bolton. She was a member of Bolton Memorial United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Scanlon of Bolton; a son, Terry McDonald of Jackson; a sister, Jo Ellen Box of Clinton; a brother, Joe Milano Jr. of Bolton; two grandchildren, Michael McDonald and Lora Merritt; nieces and nephews.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Bolton United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Bolton Cemetery.
