CARL LEE ASHBY JR.

Carl Lee Ashby Jr., died Saturday, July 21, 2001, as a result of an auto accident. He was 25.

A native of Conneaut, Ohio, Mr. Ashby was a graduate of Vicksburg High School and was an Army veteran. He had been a resident of Vicksburg for 19 years and was employed at Super Junior Food Store at the time of his death. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Ashby was a member of Shiloh Hunting Club, and he was a member of Goodrum Baptist Church.

He is survived by his parents, Carl and Patricia Ashby of Vicksburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Pamela and Philip Beck Jr., of Vicksburg; paternal grandparents, Frank and Otta Sue Ashby of Parsons, W.Va.; and a maternal great-grandmother, Martha Kantola of Kingsville, Ohio.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barb-Greenlief Funeral Home in Parsons, W.Va., with the Rev. Roger Hogle officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Gilman, W.Va.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at Barb-Greenlief Funeral Home and from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home in Vicksburg.

ANNIE M. BELL CRAWLEY

Annie M. Bell Crawley died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 85.

Mrs. Crawley was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Crawley; her parents, Thomas and Irene Bell Whitfield; and a brother, Isiah Bell.

She is survived by a brother, Jessie Bell, Sr., of Rolling Fork; a sister, Ethel Carson of Vicksburg; and others including Beatrice Bell of Vicksburg and Patricia Bell Mack of Jackson.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

DOROTHEA FAYE LOVIZA VEDROS

A Mass of the Resurrection was said for Dorothea Faye “Dottie” Loviza Vedros at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. James O’Riordan officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Vedros died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Gulfport while visiting family. She was 77.

She was born in Monroe, La., and had lived in Vicksburg for 73 years. She was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy and had served as prefect of the Blessed Virgin Sodality and as president of the St. Francis Xavier Academy Alumnae Association. Mrs. Vedros was a member of St. Paul and St. Michael Catholic Church choirs and a charter member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

She previously sang with Tommy Cunningham and his Orchestra of Dallas, Texas, and worked for P.P. Williams Co. She retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Waterways Experiment Station.

Mrs. Vedros was preceded in death by her parents, John J. and Mabel Harris Loviza, and her sister, Mary Josephine Loviza.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Philip J. Vedros Jr. of Vicksburg, three sons, Philip J. Vedros III and Stephen M. Vedros both of Vicksburg, and Mark G. Vedros of Madison; three daughters, Mary V. Stewart and Joanne V. Wright, both of Vicksburg, and Maureen C. Vedros of Long Beach; two brothers, John W. Loviza of Nashville and Joseph L. Loviza of Vicksburg; two sisters, Blanche L. Irby of Madison, Ala., and Myrtle L. Curro of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Mrs. Vedros’ grandsons, John Michael Stewart and Zachary Ryan Vedros, and Joseph R. Curro III, Christopher Curro, Gregory Curro, Jerome Curro, Hunter Lancaster and Judge Michael Lancaster.

Memorials may be made to Vicksburg Catholic School, St. Michael Catholic Church or St. Thomas Catholic Church of Long Beach.
