JOHN B. RUNNELS

DELTA John B. “Jack” Runnels died Friday, July 20, 2001, at his home in Delta. He was 68.

Born in Natchez, Mr. Runnels lived in Clinton for a number of years and had lived in Delta since 1978. He was a former employee of Miller Construction Company and Fordice Construction Company. He owned and operated Jack’s Lawn Maintenance. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Gulfport. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Runnels; his son, John B. Thompson Sr.; and a grandson, John B. Thompson Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Claudia B. Runnels of Delta; his daughter, Jean Barbe of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; four stepchildren, Jackie Lifer of Florence, Janice Hughes of Dixon, Mo., Clay Crawford of Detroit and Cindy Crouch of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Edward McGregor officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Marvin Lord, Charles “Chuck” Davis, Mike Jones, Tom Baroni, Hunter Fordice, Michael Mayfield, Alexander Neal and Ben Crouch.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Lee Giffin and Dr. Murray Whitaker.

ALEX WALLS JR.

MAYERSVILLE Alex Walls Jr. died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at his home in Mayersville. He was 66.

A former resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Walls was a former employee of Fordice Construction. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sanders Walls; his parents, Alex Walls Sr. and Mandy Spann Walls; his brother, Hosie Shanklin; two sisters, Sallie Moore and Annie Styles.

He is survived by six stepsons, Andrew Sanders of Suitland, Mo., Ricky Sanders and Walter E. Sanders, both of Kansas City, Mo., Charles Lee Sanders of Cary and Charles Earl Sanders of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Linda Faye Sanders of Louisiana; two sisters, Lillie M. Carpenter of Waukegan, Ill., and Irene Walls of Vicksburg; and other relatives including Jasona Anderson, Classie Stevenson and Alice Walker, all of Vicksburg, Mary McWade of Memphis, Sam Carter and Linda C. Short, both of Mayersville.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
